PART I
THE DREAM
All Rights Reserved ©
Maya has been dreaming about the same woman for almost a year. She doesn’t know her name. She doesn’t know where she lives. She doesn’t even know if she’s real. But in her dreams, they know each other. They talk. They laugh. They argue. They fall asleep beside each other. Somewhere between one dream and the next, Maya has fallen in love with a woman who doesn’t exist anywhere outside her sleep. Or at least, that’s what she believes. Until one ordinary afternoon, Maya sees her. The woman from her dreams is real. And when their eyes meet, she looks terrified. “You remember me?” Maya has no idea what she’s talking about. The woman does. She knows things about Maya that she shouldn’t know. She knows what they’ve said in the dreams. She knows what Maya has forgotten. And when she tells Maya to stay away from her, Maya realizes something far more frightening than the possibility that her dreams are real. Maybe they aren’t dreams at all. Maybe they’re memories. And maybe someone wanted Maya to forget.

Feliz: I am learning a lot about hockey because of the almost commentator-like transcript that is part of the storytelling style of the book. I like it. Coming from a country where there is no hockey culture, I am beginning to understand why it has so many fans.
