INTRO->
I’m currently in my classroom, looking straight ahead at the digital board on which Professor Adrian Whitmore is explaining some mathematical equations, which I’m partly interested in.
Actually, I love programming, computers, and all that stuff ’cause it kinda looks and feels cool. And of course, I actually love hacking.
And that is why I chose this major—Computers and Cybersecurity. But even though I literally can’t escape this Math. Fuck. I actually hate that subject to my core from my childhood, but as I took an interest in this major, Math will definitely chase me everywhere.
Yeahh, I actually compromised with that subject now... like, I mean, I could say I’m not too good in that sub, and I’m not worse in that sub either. I can just manage it.
But if I had a chance to go back to, like, the time when this Math was invented or discovered, I could literally hang the person who...... “Hazel, can you tell me what will be the derivative of this equation?”
Oh fuck... I didn’t even listen to a single word from the start of this class. Fine, let’s try and see.
“Gimme a min, Prof. Whitmore...”
Soo, if we just move this x this side, it will be dividing the yz, and it will be...
A whisper reaches my ear.
“Heyy... Rose, it’s 3x/5zy.”
Yepp, it was the actual answer I got too, but I’m a bit slow compared to Asher Jude Vale. He was the exact opposite of my feelings toward Math.
Sometimes I think that he loves Math more than me.
“It’s 3x/5zy, Prof. Whitmore.”
And the bell rang.
“Good work, Hazel, but don’t zone out while I’m teaching. Okay? Thank you, kids.”
“Heyy, Hazel... did you zone out again in Math class?” Ruby asks from behind while she throws her arms around me. I actually hate it when someone touches me, but I could say that she was an exception.
“Yepp... you know that I hate Math,” I say as I slowly yawn and try to lay my head on my desk.
“You know, Hazel... you always sleep like a koala every day in class—you know it sleeps like 18–22 hours a day... and I’m genuinely surprised why you haven’t started living on a tree.”
I literally gave a death glare to Niko. He always jokes about literally anything, but he was actually a smart nerd with those blue glasses. He is handsome too, but sometimes I get thoughts like:
“I could pick him up and put him somewhere he couldn’t reach me.”
“Three seconds. That’s all I’d need to make him regret speaking.”
“I could make him carry my entire backpack for the rest of the day.”
“I could hang him upside down from a tree branch.”
Shit. No. Too much paperwork for this idea.
Niko always knows that I will do something to come back at him for his jokes that everyone laughs at, including Asher, except me. Still, he always speaks his mind without thinking of any consequences. I actually like him for his honesty, though.
“Niko... I heard there were new editions of encyclopedias that came into the library today. Don’t you want to go there?”
Niko jumps from his seat, and before I can even turn and see him, he was already gone.
“Ohh... he and his obsession with his encyclopedias.”
And I lay down to take a small nap, and here another idiot came now to destroy my nap.
“Is it true? But I heard they are getting those editions next Saturday?”
I stare at Asher, and I literally spoke through my eyes:
If another word comes out from your mouth, I will stab you in the stomach 35 times.
I know that Asher understood it. He silently gets back in his chair and watches Ruby silently.
And I slept for an hour in peace.
I woke up to the commotion Niko was making with Asher, that I pranked him and that he was now going to wake me up and fight with me... meanwhile, Ruby was trying to stop both of them.
“Come on, Asher. Let’s go home,” I said nonchalantly and came out of the classroom.
Asher came out and started walking ahead.
I went back to the class for Niko.
“Bye, Niko... Don’t worry, I’ll bring you the encyclopedia tomorrow. And bye, Ruby. See you tomorrow.”
Dad used to send his car with his butler, Charles Grey, every day.
Charles was always like:
“Good evening, Miss Krysten.”
“Charles, I’ve told you a hundred times. Just call me Hazel.”
“And I’ve ignored you a hundred times, Miss Krysten.”
He always listens to my dad. He was like the second-most-trustworthy man my dad has, excluding our family.
But I insisted on walking to return home because the car meant safety, but the walk meant opportunity... as the people I was looking for were far more likely to show themselves on the streets.
Asher and I started walking down the street while he was talking about how Math is important in computers and all, but I have been waiting for the scum who has been following us for the last 20 minutes to show up and make a move.
I gave a look to Asher. He understands it within seconds... We use code language to speak with our eyes rather than words when the enemies are around.
And then there he goes. The scum has finally come out to show his face in the middle of the street.
And then he brings a short knife from his back, tucked in his belt, which wasn’t blunt at all and was shining under the flickering light.
He is wearing a mask to cover his face... but I definitely know that he was the drug dealer’s lackey whom we missed yesterday night accidentally.
Actually, I don’t carry weapons around with me to school, but I always carry a small knife which is sharper than this scum’s one and also my favourite one, on my thigh tucked under my skirt.
He starts running towards us with his knife in hand, and...
I’m literally excited...
