Haunted By death
Death Has No Door

Prologue
My legs stopped outside an ice-cream parlour.
Winter had just begun, but somehow, I couldn't stop myself. I stepped inside, picked my favourite flavour, and walked back out. The cold had setled into night, sharp against my skin.
My eyes remained fixed on the ice cream in my hand. It wasn't melting as quickly as it did in summer; the cold air seemed to be protecting it, slowing every drop, preserving it beneath the pale glow of the streetlights.
Then, suddenly, I stopped. A strange noise had fallen into my ears.
At first, it was faint….almost like a distant vibration. But within seconds, it grew sharper. Sharper and sharper, until it felt as though the sound was clawing its way through my ears and straight into my skull.
"Aah…!" I winced.
The ice cream slipped from my hand and crashed onto the ground.I immediately pressed both hands over my ears, squeezing them tightly as a sharp pain shot through my head. My entire body tensed. My teeth clenched as a sharp pain pierced through my skull.
And then…Silence.
The noise stopped as suddenly as it had begun.Slowly, I removed my hands from my ears. That was when I noticed it.
A red light.
It was glowing in the sky for barely a second, surrounded by the clear, dark-blue night. Above it, countless stars glittered peacefully, as if the sky had no idea what was happening beneath it.
It was beautiful.Beautiful in a way that felt strangely wrong. My eyes caught that mysterious moment before the red light disappeared.
I looked around. And my breath caught in my throat. People were bleeding.
Blood streamed from their noses. Some had blood spilling from their eyes, while others coughed it up from their mouths. Their faces twisted in unbearable pain, their expressions filled with terror and agony. Their bodies were trembling as though something invisible was tearing them apart from within.
One after another, They collapsed onto the ground.
"What...?" My voice barely escaped my throat.
The wind suddenly became violent, roaring through the streets like something unleashed from a cage.
Then came the thunder .Loud. Deep.Terrifying.
The sky seemed to crack open. And then the rain came pouring down. My eyes fell onto my hand.
’’Blood..?’’ in low voice full of terror.
There was blood on them.Tiny drops slipped from my fingers and fell onto the wet ground. My heart slammed against my chest like it was desperately trying to escape.Fear swallowed every thought in my mind.
I couldn't stay there neither could even think. I turned around and started running toward my dorm.My hair was already drenched. My clothes clung heavily to my skin, soaked by the rain, but I didn't care.
I didn’t look back, i didn’t dare to. For that moment i only wanted one thing, my
room, my bed.
Four walls between me and whatever has just descended upon the world. I wanted to wake up and find out that this had all been a nightmare.
Because i was scared, so scared that i could barely breathe.
I was running beneath the deafening thunder and pouring rain like a crazy person, not looking anywhere else, not thinking about anything except getting back to my hostel. I was terrified.
Completely terrified.
Those people...The street had turned red with their blood. People who had been walking home only moments ago were now lying motionless on the ground. I hadn't been prepared for something like that.
Who could have been?
It was unimaginable. Horrifying to even comprehend.
There had been around fifteen people on that street. They had all been heading home just like me.
So what had just happened?
Were they dead?
The questions kept racing through my mind as I ran, but I couldn't find an answer to even one of them.
Had I done something wrong by running away?
Should I have stayed?
Should I have helped them?
I didn't know, I couldn't think about anything else. I just had to run.
My feet moved faster than my thoughts, carrying me through the rain while my heart pounded wildly against my ribs. I could feel warm tears slipping from my eyes, strangely warm against the ghost-cold rain washing over my face.
I wiped them away, but more followed.
Then, while I was lost inside my thoughts.....i crashed into someone, Our shoulders collided hard.
"Agh..!" A small moan escaped my lips as I stumbled back.
My eyes immediately lifted toward him. He was dressed completely in black.
A long black coat covered his body, darkened further by the rain. A black mask concealed most of his face, and something resembling a cape fell behind him, moving slightly with the violent wind.
I couldn't see his eyes. Not even them. He was tall and broad.
And strangely intimidating. But what unsettled me the most wasn't his appearance. It was how calm he was. He was simply standing there.
Quiet. Still. Composed. As if the thunder wasn't shaking the sky. As if the world hadn't just turned into a nightmare.
And then there was me, Restless. Terrified. Shaking.A complete mess.
For a second, we simply stood there. Neither of us spoke. I couldn't even find my voice. There was something deeply strange about him, something I couldn't explain. Standing in front of him felt like standing before a locked door...I could see it, but I had no idea what was waiting on the other side.
I quickly looked away. I didn't want to stay there.
Not with everything that had happened. My heart was still pounding with fear, so I turned and started running again. I didn't look back.I couldn't.
After what felt like forever, I finally saw them. The lights of my hostel. Relief hit me so suddenly that my legs nearly gave way.I ran toward the entrance. But before i could enter inside my eyes started getting blurry, i didn't know what just happened.
My vision began to blur. The world around me slowly dissolved into indistinct shapes and muted colors. My body felt strangely distant, as though I were sinking somewhere I could no longer reach. Just a few steps from the entrance, my knees gave way. I fell onto the cold ground.
A deafening crack of thunder rolled across the sky, swallowing every other sound, while rain continued to pour over me. Droplets streamed across my face, slipping over my closed eyelids and tracing cold paths along my skin.
Everything became distant, the thunder, the rain, the world.
And then, there was nothing but darkness.
The next morning my eyes opened around ten as i could see wall clock in front of me but my eyes widened. Because i was on my bed, inside my dorm. How did it happened? How i arrived it? I clearly remembered that i collapsed on floor, Then how? Did someone from my hostel brought me here? Or was the whole thing i was dream, a nightmare. But it was real as hell.
There was so many questions but i was already terribly late for my first lecture. I sat up quickly.
But then another thought struck me. Why hadn't my friends come to wake me? I checked my phone it had been turned off.
Maybe they had tried calling and knocked. But I had simply been too exhausted after everything that happened the night before to hear them.
I rubbed my face and remembered everything about last night, i needed to check.
I needed to tell my friends what had happened. I connected my phone to the charger and hurried to get ready. A few minutes later, I stepped out of my room.
The hostel was empty. Completely empty, the silence felt wrong. I looked down the hallway.
But saw Nothing, No footsteps, No voices, No doors opening, No laughter......Nothing.
"Did everyone go to college already?" I considered going to the warden's room to ask what was happening, but I was already late.
I couldn't waste another minute. So i ran outside. My college was just behind the hostel, so I hurried in that direction. But something felt different. The morning was peaceful.
Too peaceful. The air was still. The streets were quiet.
There was no sign of the chaos from the previous night Yet somehow, the silence felt heavier than the storm had. As I walked toward college, an unsettling thought settled over me. Something had changed.
I couldn't see it or explain it but I could feel it. Everything looked peaceful.
And somehow, that was the most terrifying part.
My heartbeat grew faster with every step toward the college, each thud inside my chest sounding less like a heartbeat and more like a warning. An unknown terror had begun to dominate my mind, tightening around my heart like an invisible hand.
But the moment I saw the watchman standing near the gate, busy with his cellphone, a faint breath of relief escaped me. A subtle smile touched my lips.
At least someone was here.
I walked inside, there were so many students. I hurried toward my classroom as i wanted to see my friends, wanted to tell them everything about the red light, about the people.
As I walked through the corridors, I passed countless familiar faces-seniors, juniors, classmates. Students laughing, talking, rushing toward their lectures.
Normal. Everything looked normal.
I finally reached my classroom, before I could enter, one of my friends noticed me.
“Dooma?” She called my name and walked toward me, her voice carrying that familiar, crisp sweetness I had heard countless times before. “I called you so many times. I even knocked on your door. I thought you weren't coming today.” I gave her a tired smile.
“I was exhausted. I overslept.” My voice was low, but there was a strange happiness in it. For the first time since last night, seeing a familiar face made something inside me loosen.
She smiled but then her expression changed, her eyes widened. The color drained from her face.
“Dooma…”She sounded different now, terrified. She grabbed my arm.“Dooma your ears…” I frowned.
“What?”
“Your ears are bleeding.” My heart stopped, not metaphorically. For one horrifying second, it felt as though my heart had simply forgotten how to beat.
I slowly raised my hand to my ear and my fingers came away wet.
Red. Blood. A drop slid down my finger.
My eyes remained fixed on the blood as something cold crawled through my veins.
"No, not again." I whispered in terror.
“Ah…” A low whimper reached my ears when I looked up it was my friend Nina. Her eyes and ears were bleeding. Blood was slowly spilling from the corners of her mouth.
My eyes widened and body went rigid. “No…”The word barely escaped my lips. “No. It can't be…” Nina was looking at me. There was unbearable pain written across her face....the same pain I had seen last night.the same agony,
the same silent terror.
“Nina…” I reached toward her but before my fingers could touch her...Her head burst. The sound tore through the corridor.
Blood and fragments splattered across my face.
I froze. I couldn't breathe neither could able to scream.
For a moment, my mind simply refused to understand what my eyes had witnessed.
My best friend's body collapsed in front of me.And I stood there-Covered in her blood. Then I heard screaming when i looked around all my classmates were bleeding through their eyes, ears and mouth.
One after another, they collapsed onto the floor just like last night.
“No…”My voice trembled. “No…” Another body hit the ground. “NO!” My scream ripped through the corridor. “NOOOOO!”
I turned and what I saw behind me shattered whatever remained of my sanity.
Everyone, every person who had crossed my path....every student, every teacher was Dead.
Bodies lay scattered across the floor. Blood flowed beneath them, spreading through the corridors like a dark river. It soaked the tiles, climbed beneath desks, splattered across the walls. The world had become red.Silent.Dead.
And I was the only one still standing.
My breathing became erratic and my mind screamed that this wasn't real, yet every drop of blood on my skin felt horribly real. Tears rolled down my face, cutting pale paths through the blood covering my cheeks.
Why was this happening to me? Was I cursed? Was something following me?
Or was I losing my mind? Was I hallucinating all of this?
I stumbled backward.
My legs barely obeyed me. I stepped down, there was nowhere left for my eyes to escape. Dead bodies everywhere.
People I had seen only minutes ago laughing, talking, living.
Now they were nothing but corpses covered in blood.
My chest tightened until breathing itself became painful.
I kept descending.
One step, then another. My vision began to blur and my heart was pounding so violently that it felt as though it was trying to tear itself out of my chest.
When I finally reached the middle of the ground floor, I stumbled into the courtyard, complete silence. Not even the faintest sound of life.
I stood there alone, Surrounded by death. And then something inside me finally broke. "AGHHHHHH!” My scream echoed through the empty courtyard.
A blackness began spreading across my vision from the edges, swallowing everything like ink poured into water, my knees gave way like last night
The last thing I saw the blood beneath me and a face, a man in full black. He was same man I saw last night while running, and i still couldn't see his face.
What he is doing here? Who is he? But my body gave up and everything went black.
How was the chapter? What do you think is haunted by death itself or She herself is death in form of human...?

I liked the way you kept it mysterious 😊
Okay, nice start for the first chapter! I really liked that there was no loaded description—you started right with the inciting incident, with no waste of time. The pacing is tight, the mystery is intriguing, and you’ve done a good job laying the groundwork.
Just a little advice from me as an author myself: polish the grammar a little, and if possible, consider shortening the chapter or dividing it into two. I’m really enjoying the mystery and looking forward to reading more. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
that's violent, mysterious. the biggest question is what's happening to dooma. a mysterious chapter, author. and I am here for ut
