How They Meet
Trent’s knee injuryhas him frustrated.
He’s a professional baseball player, and suddenly he’s being told to slow down, recover, stretch, strengthen, and all sorts of different things. Athletes hate being told what to do things when they just wanna get back on the field.
Someone recommends yoga.
Trent isn’t thrilled about it, but he’ll try anything if there’s achance it’ll help his knee to heal much more so he can get back on that diamond.
first day of class. or what would had been class for him. he walks in and thats when things go to down hill quickly.
He scoped the palce out, takign it all in. when he meets the yoga instructor.
She’s friendly enough, but there’s something about the way she interacts with him that immediately puts Trent on edge. She keeps getting too close, and Trent just isn’t interested. He tries to be polite, but she doesnt let up so he just says fuck it and gets the hell out of there.
He’s frustrated, uncomfortable, and his knee is aching.
He’s also wondering why he listened to whoever recommended yoga in the first place. more so that God forsaken place with the annyoing chick.
grumbling to himself he isnt focused on his surroundings and he walks straight into Elle.
She comes out of a little coffee shop carrying two coffees and her phone, distracted because she’s trying to answer a text.
Trent turns the corner at the same time.
They collide.
One of the coffees goes flying.
Elle gasps.
Trent immediately starts apologizing.
And instead of recognizing him as the infamous baseball player, she looks at his athletic clothes, then his knee brace, before looking at his face and says
“Please tell me that wasn’t your bad knee.”
Trent just stares at her. before he snaps out of it
"it wasn't"
She looks relieved.
“Good. Because that would have been a really terrible way to meet someone.”
And Trent realizes he’s smiling.
They end up sitting inside the coffee shop while Elle replaces the coffee she spilled on him.
She learns all about who he is but that doesnt change anything for her. he's human and she is too, and she's going treat him how he treats her.
That’s what catchesTrent’s attention.
She’s not impressed by the baseball player.
She’s interested in him.
And because Trent has just walked away from someone who made him uncomfortable, the contrast is immediate.
Elle doesn’t invade his space.
She doesn’t flirt aggressively, she doesn’t treat his injury like something fascinating, she just talks to him. taking time to know the Trent behind the fame. and that was a first for Trent.
And Trent finds himself wanting to keep talking.
Maybe he even tells her:
“I hate yoga.”
And she laughs.
“Then why were you there?”
“Because apparently it’s supposed to help my knee.”
“Did it?”
Trent thinks about the yoga class.
Then looks at her.
“Didnt even make it as far as a yoga mat before the chick that was the instructor started being creepy"
She laughs.
And that’s the moment he realizes he might actually be glad he went.
Not because of the yoga.
Because if he hadn’t gone, he wouldn’t have walked out of that studio and met his future wife.
the one he longs for, desires, worships, and wants the world with
