Lily and James Potter died at the hands of Voldemort. Harry Potter came out with a world famous scar. But, what happened to the unborn baby that was still in Lily's belly when she died?
When Sirius Black was accused of being a murderer and a traiter to the Potters he knew of a secret that he had to share with the only person who could possibly believe he was innocent. This specific man loved Lily with all his heart. He told Severus Snape of the baby and that's how he heard of the news of Lily's death.
Severus rushed over to find Lily lying on the ground, he was devastated. He had to act fast though to preserve the baby's life. Through tears and sobs he was able to conduct this advanced spell to birth the baby. She was only half way along but Snape was smart. He was able to enchant her womb to live on its own and drew it apart from Lily.
The last 3 months of the baby's need for the womb was just enough for Severus to wrap his head around the fact that he had to treat this girl as his own daughter.
Even though this girl was half of the man he despised, she was also half of the woman who he couldn't bear to let down.
Snape was so thankful to still have a piece of Lily with him. To care for this child as if she was his and Lily's. It was his dream come true, besides the fact that Lily couldn't be here herself.
When the baby was finally ready to be born, he named her Iverly Lily Snape.
He had to keep this entirely a secret, she couldn't know she had a brother. And if the Dark Lord ever tried to reach out to him, he could never know she wasn't his daughter.
