Chapter 1 : The OFFER

I had done so many things in the name of this so-called “humanity,” but these people didn't care about those who were willing to sacrifice their lives to protect it—not the soldiers standing at the borders, nor people like me.

And here I was, sitting in an interrogation room.

Honestly, turning myself in to the police had been my own decision. I wanted to know what was happening inside the system.

And now I knew everything I needed to know.

“Ehi!? Ragazza, mi stai ascoltando?” (Hey! Girl,, are you listening?”)

“SÌ” (Yea) I replied, feeling increasingly annoyed with the officer.

His questions were useless and didn't make any sense. He wasn't even asking about what I had done. Instead, he kept beating around the bush, eventually moving on to stories about his heroic work and how many criminals he had caught.

What a weirdo.

I wanted to blast his head off, but unfortunately, I didn't have a gun with me.

If I'd known beforehand that I'd have to deal with such an irritating and cocky man, I would've sent someone else instead of coming here myself.

Finally, he stopped yapping, and I was sent back to my cell.

I don't mind admitting it, but this cell was pretty cozy.

And, honestly, it was much more peaceful here.

It had been a week since I'd been sent here, and, just as I'd expected, things weren't exactly normal.

Personally, I didn't care much.

Not that I'd be staying here for long.

It wasn't like I was getting bail. With the charges I'd been slapped with, it seemed like I'd be here for a few years.

I think you guys have guessed it by now.

Yes.

I'm escaping.

Tonight.

I was ready to leave this place.

Then—

“Questa è la ragazza, signore.”(This is the girl, sir.)

A man entered my cell, probably in his fifties, accompanied by several bodyguards.

My plan was being ruined by this punk.

Not that I could do anything about it.

“Pleasure to meet you, young lady.”

Already annoyed by the way he addressed me, I simply replied, “Hello.”

He introduced himself as 'Kabir'.

Quite an old name he had there.

In any case, I wasn't going to introduce myself.

Not when he'd just ruined my escape plan.

He continued.

“So, you're the one they're looking for, huh? I expected you to be a little older. You're a unique piece, aren't you?”

“Is it mandatory to listen to your rubbish?”

After a three-second pause, I added,“Ehi, carceriere, chi è questo tizio che dice sciocchezze qui? Volevo dormire!”(Hey, jailer, who's this guy talking rubbish here? I wanted to sleep!)

The jailer glanced at me but didn't say anything.

“He won't listen to you, lady. By the way, congratulations... you just got your bail!”

Now those words intrigued me.

This guy had enough power to get bail for someone facing charges like mine.

Now that was something.

Not that I hadn't seen people like him before.

He must have bribed the jailer.

But why was he specifically looking for me?

One thing I knew for certain was that he hadn't mistaken me for someone else. With the level of confidence he carried, I knew he wasn't here for some small job.

I scoffed.

“Bail? Nice joke you've got there, Grandpa. But let me tell you in advance—I don't like jokes like that. Just tell me what you want from me. I'll decide what to do next.”

Inside, I knew I wasn't even close to his level.

Not in physical strength.

In power.

In status.

But I was cocky myself, so I said it anyway.Just for some fun.

He let out a small scoff.

“I think we should talk somewhere, now that you have your bail.”

Well, I didn't mind going outside to talk to him.

If I wanted to, I could escape at any point.

“Then let's go , Grandpa,” I said, a hint of a smirk appearing on my face.

The jailer released me, and I followed Kabir along with his bodyguards.

As I left the place, I noticed several death glares coming from my fellow inmates.

And, to be honest, I was enjoying every second of it.

The officer congratulated me on getting bail while Kabir stood beside me, busy with the paperwork.

Soon, we left that battered building and headed toward the parking lot.

Finally, I was free again.

And without much hassle, too.

As Kabir and I stood at the entrance of the parking area, I expected him to say something.

He didn't.

Not a single word.

The silence was killing me.

I had also expected there to be another vehicle for me. I mean, why would a man like him sit with ME?

But, surprisingly, I ended up sitting beside Kabir in his car.

I had no idea where we were going.

Kabir had said we would talk.

But where?

Above all, I hated the dead silence inside the car.

It felt as though I were trapped in the middle of a silent prayer, except the silence itself was ringing in my ears.

I was getting more and more irritated by the second.

I was on the verge of snapping when I noticed something odd.

As we moved through the city, I watched everything.

Every turn.

Every road.

Every change in direction.

I couldn't be wrong.

I knew this town too well.

We were heading toward the airport.

I hated myself for letting the silence distract me.

Ten minutes after realizing it, we arrived at the airport.

And the moment I saw where we were, I instantly regretted my decision to come with him.

We were leaving Italy.

I was horrified.

This man was taking me back to India.

For a moment, I seriously considered getting rid of this bastard.

But something inside me kept me from doing that.

Now I was in a situation where I couldn't escape.

Especially when I was sitting inside his car.

With HIM.

After nearly two hours of silence, Kabir finally spoke.

“We're taking a flight to India.”

“I can see that very well!” I snapped. “You didn't tell me that you came all the way from India to take me back.”

“Well...” He paused.

“Now you know.”

His bodyguard opened the car door.

“Let's go.” - He said plainly.
