Chapter 1
My lungs burn with every ragged breath, the cold night air searing its way down my throat as I push my legs harder. My boots slap against the wet asphalt, splashing through puddles that reflect the distorted glow of distant streetlights.
The alley stretches ahead, a narrow canyon of brick and shadow, and I know...I know I'm not fast enough.
Behind me, their footsteps echo like a mad beast chasing after a meal that they haven't had for a century. Heavy. Relentless. Closing.
"Fuck, she's quick!" one of them shouts, his voice rough with exertion and something darker perhaps amusement.
"Won't matter," another answer, closer now. "Legs'll give out soon. They always do."
I risk a glance back. Three of them. Maybe four. Shadows with hungry shapes, silhouettes that lurch and sway as they run. One of them is already pulling at his belt, the metal clinking.
My foot catches on a loose grate. I stumble, hands slapping against the wet ground, skinning my palms raw. The shock jolts through my knees, and I scramble, trying to push myself back up... But It's too late.
I am too slow.
A hand fists in my hair, yanking my head back. I scream. My desperate plea cuts through the night, but there's no one to hear. The grip tightens, twisting, and I'm hauled to my feet, my scalp screaming.
"Gotcha," he breathes, hot and sour against my ear. His other hand wraps around my throat, squeezing just enough to make my vision swim. "Told you, didn't I? Told you running was pointless."
I thrash, nails raking across his forearm, but he just laughs. The others circle in, blocking out the light, their shadows falling over me like a shroud.
"Please.." I gasp, but the word dies as his hand shoves me forward, bending me over the hood of a rusted car. The metal is cold through my thin shirt, biting into my stomach.
"Please what?" another voice drawls, close behind me. I feel his hands on my hips, gripping hard, fingers digging into the meat of my ass through my jeans. "Please don't stop?"
The first one still has my hair in his grip, pressing my cheek against the cold metal. I can smell the oil and the wet rain, taste blood from where I bit my lip. The second one's hands are working at my belt, yanking it open with rough, impatient tugs.
"Hold her still," he grunts, and I feel the denim being pulled down, the cold air hitting my skin, my underwear following in a single brutal motion. I try to clamp my thighs together, but a knee forces them apart.
"Look at that," he murmurs, and I hear the wet sound of him spitting into his palm. "Tight little cunt. Gonna stretch her out real good."
The first one laughs, low and cruel. "Make her scream. I wanna hear it."
I squeeze my eyes shut, tears leaking from the corners, as I feel the blunt pressure of him against me. No, not pushing in yet, just there, teasing, waiting.
"Beg for it," he says, his voice a filthy whisper. "Beg me to fuck you."
I shake my head, a broken sob escaping my throat.
He slaps my ass hard. The cracking noise echoes off the peeling walls. He whispers again. "Beg."
And I know, I know there's no way out.
The slap stings, but it also wakes something inside me. Some feral, cornered animal that refuses to die quietly.
His hand pulls back for another strike, and in that split second, my fingers find what they were searching for. A loose chunk of asphalt. With the last strength of mine, I swing it blind, putting every ounce of terror and rage into the motion.
It connects with a satisfying sickening crack.
He roars, releasing my hair, stumbling backward with both hands clutching his face. Blood pours through his fingers, black in the dim light. The one behind me freezes, his grip loosening in shock.
I don't think. I just move blindly.
I shove off the hood, my bare feet slapping against the wet ground as I bolt. My jeans and underwear are tangled somewhere around my ankles, and I kick them off mid-stride, not breaking pace. The cold air bites at my exposed skin, the rough asphalt scraping the soles of my feet, but I don't care.
Behind me, the shouting starts again. More angrier now. More uglier. "She fucking broke my nose! Get her!"
I burst out of the alley onto a main street. Dim streetlights stretch ahead, casting long shadows. A few cars pass in the distance, but none slow down. I'm naked from the waist down, my thighs streaked with dirt, my shirt hanging torn off one shoulder. I must look like a ghost, a nightmare.
Still, I run. My life depends on it.
My legs are burning, my lungs screaming, but I push harder. The street curves, and I see lights ahead. It's a gated entrance, wrought iron and stone, warm golden glow spilling from within. A club. Private. Exclusive. People. Who can save me.
I don't care what it is. Whatever kind of club it might be! I just need help.
I'm twenty feet from the gate when I hear them behind me, closer than before. They're faster than me. They're going to catch me again, and this time... My thoughts break when the gate swings open.
A figure steps out. Tall. Broad-shouldered. Dressed in black, the collar of his shirt open, sleeves rolled to reveal forearms corded with muscle. He takes one look at my wild-eyed, half-naked, bleeding state and his expression shifts from mild curiosity to something cold and hard.
"Inside," he commands not offering a space to argue.
I don't hesitate. I stumble through the gate, and he steps past me, pulling it shut behind him. The lock clicks.
The goons skid to a halt on the other side of the iron bars, panting, furious. The one with the broken nose is still gushing blood, his eyes wild with rage.
"Give her back, asshole," he snarls. "She's ours."
The man in black doesn't answer. He simply reaches into his jacket, pulls out a sleek black pistol, and levels it at them through the bars. No words. No threats. Just the cold, unwavering promise of lead.
They hesitate. Exchange glances. The broken-nosed one spits blood onto the pavement.
"This ain't over," he growls, but they're already backing away, melting back into the shadows.
The man watches them go, then holsters his weapon and turns to me. His eyes travel down my body. Most probably taking in the scraped knees, the torn shirt, the complete absence of anything below my waist. His gaze lingers for a moment, but there's no hunger in it. Just assessment.
"You're safe now," he says, his voice is low and smooth. "Come inside. We'll get you cleaned up."
I nod, my teeth are chattering from cold or shock or both and follow him through a heavy oak door into the club.
The warmth hits me first. Then the low, amber lighting. The smell of leather and whiskey and expensive cologne. It's a private lounge, all dark wood and velvet, with a long bar along one wall and several leather armchairs arranged around low tables.
And in those armchairs, five men are seated.
They look up as we enter. Their eyes find me immediately, and I feel the weight of their gazes like a physical touch.
They're all different. One older, one younger, one with a hard face and one with easy smile but they all share the same sharp, predatory stillness.
