Premise
A character-driven, emotionally layered Buffy fanfiction scene centered on Spike, Angel, and Buffy—a darker, morally ambiguous tone without humor or lightness, and fully original.
Option 1 — Slow Burn, Predatory Tension (Buffy’s POV)
Buffy felt them before she saw them—two signatures in the dark, familiar in opposite ways. Spike’s heatless spark, sharp and restless. Angel’s heavy gravity, ancient and patient.
They stepped into the ruined courtyard like they’d rehearsed it, one on each side of her, as if she were something they were circling.
“Slayer,” Spike murmured, voice low, reverent in a way he’d never admit. “You’re bleeding.”
Angel’s gaze flicked to her throat, then her wrist, then her pulse. “You shouldn’t be out here alone.”
Buffy exhaled. “I’m not alone. You two are hovering like I’m a prize in a raffle.”
Spike smirked. “Not a prize. A mate.”
Angel didn’t flinch. “She knows what I want.”
Buffy’s heart stuttered. They weren’t posturing for each other. They were speaking to her.
Spike stepped closer, eyes bright. “I want you because you’re fire. Because you choose your own damn path, even when it kills you.”
Angel’s voice was quieter, but it cut deeper. “I want you because you see the monster and the man, and you don’t lie about either.”
Buffy swallowed hard. “You’re both talking like I’m supposed to pick.”
“You will,” Angel said.
“You already have,” Spike whispered.
And Buffy realized—terrifyingly—that both of them were right in different ways.
Option 2 — Violent, Emotional Confrontation (Spike vs. Angel)
The crypt door slammed behind her, and Buffy spun just in time to see Spike shove Angel against the stone wall.
“You think you can just stroll back into her life and claim her?” Spike snarled.
Angel didn’t fight back. He didn’t need to. His stillness was its own kind of threat. “I’m not claiming anything. I’m telling the truth. I love her.”
Spike laughed, wild and bitter. “Love? You left her. You always leave her.”
“And you think you’re better?” Angel’s voice sharpened. “You want her because she fills the hole inside you. I want her because she deserves someone who sees her.”
Spike’s fist cracked across Angel’s jaw.
Buffy stepped between them before Angel could retaliate. “Enough.”
They froze—two predators halted by the one person they’d die for.
Buffy looked from one to the other, her voice steady. “You don’t get to fight over me like I’m territory. I’m not choosing tonight. Maybe not ever.”
Spike’s expression softened, just a fraction. Angel’s hardened, just a fraction.
And Buffy realized the truth: Whoever won her heart would be the one who understood that she wasn’t something to win.
Option 3 — Intimate, Quiet, Devastating (Buffy chooses… but not how they expect)
Buffy sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the floor. Spike leaned against the wall, arms crossed, pretending he wasn’t watching her breathe. Angel stood in the doorway, silent, waiting for her to speak.
“I know what you both want,” she said finally. “And I know what it means. A mate isn’t just a lover. It’s a bond. A forever.”
Angel stepped forward. “Buffy—”
“No.” She held up a hand. “Let me finish.”
Spike’s jaw tightened, but he nodded.
“I love you,” she said, looking at Angel. “But loving you has always meant losing myself.”
Angel’s face broke, just slightly.
Then she turned to Spike. “And you… you see me. All of me. But you burn too hot. I can’t breathe around you.”
Spike looked away, swallowing hard.
Buffy stood, voice steady. “I choose myself. Not because I don’t care. But because I finally understand that my heart isn’t something to be claimed.”
Angel closed his eyes. Spike exhaled like he’d been punched.
And Buffy walked past both of them—stronger than she’d ever been.
