A little note before you begin...

Him & Her: Apart is a story very close to the heart of what I love about writing romance.

Not every love story is about finding the perfect person. Sometimes it's about finding yourself while loving someone else.

They aren't enemies. They aren't wrong for each other. There isn't a villain waiting in the wings to tear them apart.

They're two people who love each other, who genuinely want the best for one another, and who slowly discover that their dreams don't always point in the same direction.

I wanted to explore the uncomfortable space between "I love you" and "I don't know if we can make this work."

The little things matter in this story. Train journeys. Coffee. Notebooks. Calendars covered in plans. A garage that's more than just a job. A book that begins as a dream and slowly becomes a life.

It's about the things we build, the things we carry, and the things we sometimes have to let go of.

And most importantly, it's about remembering that a relationship ending doesn't mean the love was a lie.

Some stories are about happily ever after.

This one is about becoming who you're meant to be ❤️

Summary

They love each other. They have a future planned. So why does that future feel impossible? They have spent years making a long-distance relationship work. Two cities. Endless train journeys. Weekend visits. Sunday goodbyes. Somehow, they've always found a way back to each other. Now they're engaged, with a wedding ahead of them and a life they're determined to build together. But her writing career is changing everything... The dream she's carried for years is finally becoming real. Her books are being published, opportunities are opening up, and the life she's always imagined is suddenly within reach. His future is waiting at home. His family's garage has been passed down through generations, and he is slowly stepping into the role that has always been waiting for him. Neither wants the other to give up what matters. So they try to find a way to have both. But what happens when the person you love and the life you dream of begin pulling you in opposite directions? Because sometimes the hardest question isn't "Do you love me?" It's "Can we build a life where neither of us has to give up who we are?"

This is a story about two people who love each other deeply, but who are slowly discovering that love doesn’t always make two different lives easy to fit together.

He has a life rooted in his family, his home, and the garage that has been part of his family for generations.

She has always wanted to write. What begins as a dream gradually becomes a career, and when that career takes her to Edinburgh, her world starts opening in ways neither of them could have predicted.

They have the love. They have the history. They have plans for a future together.

But they also have two cities, two careers, family responsibilities, long train journeys, and two very different ideas of what their future needs to look like.

They try.

They compromise.

They travel.

They make plans.

They keep finding ways to make the distance work.

Because when you love someone, you don’t simply give up when things become difficult... But sometimes the hardest part isn’t deciding whether you love someone - It’s accepting that love can’t always solve everything.

Him & Her: Apart is a story about love, distance, ambition, sacrifice, identity, difficult choices, letting go and finding yourself again.

There are no villains here. No one deliberately breaks the other person’s heart. There are simply two people who have spent years trying to build one life from two very different ones.

And sometimes, choosing yourself doesn’t mean the love wasn’t real. Sometimes it means recognising that both people deserve the chance to become everything they’re meant to be.
