Safe Space
Dino liked to pride himself on being a patient man. Sure he had moments where his patience would run thin, but he’s only human.
For Rak? He’d wait years for his bunny to heal.
It brings him comfort knowing Rak’s safe and sound in his bed, cuddled up with one of the few dinosaur plushies he has on his bed. Soft snores and light shifts, Dino has to stop himself from running a hand through his hair.
Having Rak stay with him (although temporary) does bring more hope towards a future relationship. Not that the current situation is ideal, especially not when Rak is staying here because he’s afraid to go back to the small apartment he once called home.
Dino offered to come stay with him, to make sure his lowlife ex didn’t try to harm him again. But of course his little bunny insisted it’d be better if they just avoided that potential scenario all together.
Fair enough.
“No,” Rak mumbled in his sleep, alarming Dino. “Mek stop..”
Dino felt his heart tighten and a frown tug at his lips. This wasn’t the first nightmare and probably wouldn’t be the last about the bastard who abused Rak.
“Rak,” Dino spoke softly, gently caressing his cheek. “You’re supposed to be having sweet dreams about me.”
Rak startles awake, something Dino has come used to but he calms himself the moment their eyes meet. Dino offers a little smile of reassurance and this time he doesn’t stop himself from ruffling Rak’s already bed head.
“Dino,” Rak attempts to whine but it comes out as a tired slurred mess of his name. “..Is it morning?”
Although a simple question, it causes a flurry of emotions in Dino. Rak can’t even sleep peacefully without replaying through the trauma he had to endure, and that is something Dino isn’t having.
He won’t let his bunny lose a wink of sleep.
“Neither one of us are getting up at this hour,” Dino easily pushes down on Rak’s shoulder cause he will by no means entertain the thought of getting up at 3AM. “Come on, let’s head back to bed.”
It’s a miracle itself that Rak had decided to stay in his bed and not stubbornly sneak off to sleep on the couch again. What’s even more of a surprise to Dino is when Rak moves until they’re shoulder to shoulder, cradling a dinosaur plushie in his arm.
Dino might actually die from how cute Rak is.
“Are you okay?” Dino asks, moving his arm as a silent invite for Rak to cuddle closer to him. If there’s any way he can be a safe space for Rak then he’d do anything in the world for him.
There’s a beat of silence with only the sound of ruffled sheets heard from Rak nearly clinging to his side. His head is tucked under his arm and he’s turned on his side looking up at Rak with those cute little brown eyes he fell in love with at first sight.
“Is this okay?” Rak asks instead. He’s hesitant about the question, obviously dancing around it because Dino already knows what’s wrong. “I just want to stay close to you. I- I feel better,” safe, secure, loved. “When I’m with you.”
And how can Dino ever push away Rak? Rak who has gone through so much and still has the sweetest heart.
“Just for tonight,” Rak mumbles into Dino’s shirt. He’s not so sure this will be a one time thing, but he’s not going to complain. Every moment with Rak is to be cherished. “Good night, Dino.”
And because Dino felt it in the moment, he placed the smallest, softest kiss on top of Rak’s head. He could feel him push more into in an attempt to bury his face against his chest.
Again, Rak is by far the cutest in his eyes.
“Good night, bunny.”
