The Cold Rejection
The darkness of the night was slowly engulfing the road. The silence inside the car was so heavy that only the faint hum of the engine and my rapid breathing could be heard.
I sat there, gripping my dress tightly in both fists, hoping that Taehyung would look at me just once... that he would speak to me with love, even for a moment.
I couldn't understand why we had left the party like this. I was terrified of his anger, and tears were welling up in my eyes...
But his face showed nothing but rage—an anger that was breaking my heart piece by piece.
Suddenly, he slowed down the car and pulled over at a deserted side of the road. His grip on the steering wheel tightened, but he didn't even bother turning to look at me.
"Get out," his cold, harsh voice echoed inside the car.
My heart skipped a beat. I looked at him in panic.
"W... What?"
"Didn't you hear me? Get out of my car, right now," he said without a trace of mercy.
"But Tae... look outside for a moment. There's no one around for miles, and night is falling. I'm your wife, how can you leave me in a place like this?" Tears were now streaming down my cheeks. With my voice trembling, I was forced to beg him with folded hands. "What did I even do? I didn't even say anything..."
Taehyung took a deep breath and looked at me. There was no sympathy for me in his deep, dark eyes.
"You're not a little child who's going to get lost," he said in an extremely relaxed yet ruthless tone. "Now quietly get out, or I will drag you out myself."
"Taehyung... please..." I stammered.
"Enough! That's it. You won't listen like this, will you?" He unlocked the car door and leaned toward me. Seeing the anger in his eyes, my body trembled.
"N... No... I'm going!" I said in panic and, crying, opened the car door and stepped out.
As soon as my feet touched the ground, the cold wind enveloped me. The road was completely deserted—no cars, no people anywhere in sight. The darkness of the night had spread everywhere.
I turned back, hoping that Taehyung might take pity on me... but he rolled down the car window, looked at me, and gave me a 'Bye' gesture with a cruel smile. The very next moment, he sped away.
I was left standing all alone in the middle of the road. The car's tail lights were disappearing into the dark.
"Would he have been happier... if I wasn't in his life?" I asked myself, wiping away my tears.
I opened my bag to call someone, but the phone screen was completely dead. Home was still very far from here, and I had no idea about the route.
I started walking forward. With every step, my heavy dress kept getting in the way. Suddenly, lightning thundered across the sky, and dark clouds gathered.
"What... is it going to rain now too?"
