Summary

I haven't looked myself in the eye since the night I watched my sisters die wearing my face. Ophelia Sorrell hasn't looked in a mirror in seven years. Not the bathroom glass, not a darkened window, not even the eyes of a stranger because somewhere behind every reflective surface, two dead girls are waiting to look back. She keeps her world small. Her father's toy shop. The floor beneath her feet. Anything that can't show her a face she buried a long time ago. Then a man finds her in the dark. He doesn't know her name before he knows her secret. He watches her sleep before she ever speaks to him. He finds the hospital records, the police files, the photograph of three identical girls and instead of walking away, he starts building something for her. Rhys Castellan owns the kind of carnival that isn't built for children. Glass, glamour, and things that shouldn't be beautiful but are. And once he understands exactly what Ophelia is afraid of, he decides quietly, patiently, obsessively that he's going to be the one to teach her how to see herself again. Whether she survives the lesson is another matter. Cracked Doll is a dark, obsessive romance featuring a morally gray hero, a heroine trapped between two kinds of haunting, and a love story that asks: what's more dangerous the thing you're afraid to see, or the man who won't stop looking?

Author's Note

Before you step into Whitby, into The Tin Heart and The Midnight Menagerie, I want to be honest with you: this is not a soft book.

Cracked Doll was born from wanting to write about fear — the kind we carry in our bodies long after the moment that caused it has passed — and about the strange, complicated ways we let people close enough to touch it. Ophelia's story deals with grief, trauma, addiction, and control, and Rhys is not a safe man by any conventional measure. This is a dark romance, and I've written it as one, without softening the edges that make it dark.

Please read the content warnings before you begin, and take care of yourself first. If any of these themes are difficult for you, that's not a failure of the reader — it's simply not the right time for this book, and that's okay.

For everyone else — welcome to the carnival. I hope you don't look away.

Silver's Second Chance

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.

Kimberly: It's nice to have a great book that you can simply melt into. There's a touch of drama but not so much that it's jarring. There's a touch of spice but not so much that you'd be ashamed at recommending it to your mother. The characters have you both chuckling and rolling your eyes at the same time. ...
