Stop Singing "Boyoyon Rock"!
Lunch break.
Takuma Kunimi was stretching in an empty classroom.
He spread his feet apart, took a deep breath, and settled into a fighting stance facing the wall.
Whoosh!
A long, graceful Taekwondo kick sliced cleanly through the air.
“...Phew.”
After catching his breath, Takuma began humming without even realizing it.
“Boyoyon, boyoyon... Rooooock...”
His oddly cheerful voice echoed throughout the silent classroom.
It was an old song by the Japanese rock band Kinniku Shoujo Tai.
His mother used to play it in the car when he was a child. Lately, the tune had suddenly resurfaced in his memory, and for some reason he couldn’t stop singing it.
It always happened at the same moments—
When he was alone.
When he let his guard down.
When his mood felt... boyoyon.
“Boyoyon, boyoyon—”
“WOULD YOU SHUT UUUUP ALREADY?!”
The classroom door flew open with a bang.
Takuma turned around.
Standing there was Mikiko Izumi, her face bright red and both hands planted firmly on her hips.
“You were singing Boyoyon Rock again, weren’t you?! How many times do I have to tell you to stop?!”
“...Uh... I don’t know.”
Takuma tilted his head.
“I guess it’s just a habit.”
Mikiko stomped straight toward him.
“Seriously! I told you before—stop singing in the classroom! It’s embarrassing! I’m the one who has to hear it!”
“...Is it really that bad?”
“‘Really that bad’?! YES, IT IS!”
Seeing her raise a fist in frustration, Takuma scratched the back of his head before giving a small bow.
“Sorry. I’ll try to break the habit.”
“...Please do. Next time, I’m throwing a piece of chalk at you. And I mean it.”
She turned away with an annoyed huff.
Yet instead of leaving, she quietly sat down beside one of the desks.
Takuma blinked.
“Why are you sitting here?”
“No reason.”
She looked away.
“Just taking a break.”
He never noticed.
He never noticed that she had searched the school just to find this empty classroom.
He never noticed the faint blush on her cheeks.
Or the two chocolate snacks she was still holding in her hand.
