Dissociative Fague

The lights shined bright at the covered body in an autopsy room, in contrast to its gloomy atmosphere.

“It’s a murderer again,” Rawil informed his colleague Garim as he wore a grim expression. “I don’t know where the world is heading, why people can kill someone this easily,” he commented and wrapped gloves around his hands.

Garim handsome face wore a grim expression and stared at gloves with a gloomy look in his eyes, he let out a deep sigh, picked them up, wore them, turned around and uncovered the body.

He took a glimpse of the countless open cuts on the body of deceased. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before starting autopsy.

Garim removed his gloves after the autopsy.

“ You are really skilled regardless of your hatred toward this profession,” Rawil complemented.

“ What’s the use of such skills that makes me feel like vomiting.” He tossed gloves into the dustbin placed near the bed and walked out accompanied by Rawil.

“ At this rate you will end up defying your parents wills. But honestly I wish that you should have brought treason in the unbreakable empire of your parents wills. What type of parents push their children to every extent to fulfil their own dreams. Moreover you have been working for four years. You need to quit now to do something at your age. You are in your thirties already.”

“You talk too much.” Garim had same cold expression.

“And I wish you would spit a few more words.”

They entered into a room with cabinets. Garim gown slipped down from his broad shoulders and got hung in the cabinet.

“ You have too many wishes for others”

“ Not others, it’s you my childhood sweet buddy.” Rawil wrapped his arms around Garim neck and Garim glared at him.

Rawil eyes rounded. His lips pouted and he looked away.

Garim held his hand to pull him closer and hugged him, “You are also my only friend in this world.”

A bright smile appeared at Rawil’s face.

The next day Garim wore his gown took gloves and headed to autopsy room. He once again dialled Rawil’s number but it was off . He entered the autopsy room and saw his senior colleagues standing.

“ You have not informed him yet?” The senior colleague who looked around forty asked his junior.

“I am sorry I forgot,” he replied, his voice quite.

Garim tried to figure out the situation, he looked at their expressions and rapidly blinked twice.

“Mr. Garim we will take over this autopsy , you can go and….”

Garim saw a familiar chain at the hand of dead body and walked past the doctors toward it. The voice around him became inaudible.

They didn’t try to stop him. He pulled the white clothe off the dead body slowly and saw Rawil lying at the steel bed coldly. There were several gunshots at his face and body.

His lips trembled, and his eyesight got foggy as tears streamed down his cheeks. His hands felt Rawil’s face with a gentle touch, he wanted to ask but his voice didn’t support. Muffled sounds of weeping started to rise slowly and soon wailing sounds resonated by the walls. It was first time they witnessed his emotions. The cold wall of his fall down like sand.

In the evening he was settled in front of a police officer inside a police station.

“ Are you his guardian?” Police officer inquired.

“ His family lives in a village. I have informed them, but it will take some time.”

“ Then I will explain it roughly to you. He fell victim to a pre-planned robbery. He tried to resist and got shot several times. We will soon capture the criminal.”

Garim constantly stared at the picture of Rawil on the victim profile placed in front of police officer. He looked pale.

The officer noticed and turned over the profile papers that made Garim to look at him.

“ Have you heard me?” The officer asked.

Garim nodded in agreement.

“Is there anything you would like to tell us like any gold or collection he was keeping?”

“He was collecting money to buy a house in the city. He said it was a hassle to deposit such a little amount in bank every month, so he kept it in his vault. He was afraid that our colleagues will find out about his origin and make fun of him.” Tears came out of his eyes, which he wiped by rubbing his hand against his cheeks.

Rawil parents came next day and received his body. The funeral was held, Garim was side by side with them as he was a family member too.

After a week of vacation he resumed his job. On the first day after vacation, he stood in the autopsy room, a new assistant stood by his side. He held onto a knife but stood still, spaced out looking at the dead body’s face that had bruises all over the face.

“ Sir! Are you okay? Are you listening to me Sir? If you are not feeling well……”

The voice of his assistant started to disappear. Suffocation wrapped him and he fell to the ground and gasped heavily to pull in some air, wheezing gasps continued as he looked at his surroundings.

He coughed and stood up to figure out his location. Multiple story buildings stood tall all around him beside the wide road where he stood on the footpath, a place he has never seen before.

“ But I was in…. He whispered as his heavy breathing started to calm down. He noticed his white gown and searched for his cell phone.

“ Ahhh! I placed it in the locker,” he headed to a cafe and questioned the owner, “ Where is this place? How far is this from Cargona shopping mall?”

“You are in Moul city right now, I don’t know about the distance but you can take the subway a little ahead to get there,” he replied pointing his fingers to his left.

“ Thank you , Can I ask for money if you don’t mind?”

He scanned Garim for a moment and nodded, “ Sure”

Garim took money, removed his gown and came out. He took the subway to head back.

But the problem was every time he stood in the autopsy room, he found himself somewhere else. He took some more days off, but it continued even after his return. His senior recommended a psychiatrist to him.

“ You have dissociative fague, You seems to have some triggers for the symptoms to appear like autopsy room. I recommend you to quit your job,” Female doctor’s voice resonated in the hospital room.

“If you keep on going according to your parents wills like this you will end up with a mental illness,” Rawil saying replayed in his head. His eyes became teary and he looked up at the ceiling before looking down at his feet, and placed his elbows on his thighs. He let out a deep breath and looked up at the doctor, “ So if I quit my job I will get better?”

“ Well I can’t guarantee that since it’s not this easy but to cope with it this is a starting point. But if you keep getting your therapy, hopefully there will be good results.”

He quit his job without informing his parents and started staying at his apartment. He trapped himself inside the house and ordered delivery food and stuff. His days passed without any changes in his routine.
