Chapter 1: WHISPERS OF THE HEART
For the feelings that lived quietly, waiting for language.
1. The Unspoken
I have a thousand words
resting behind my teeth,
but when the moment comes,
silence remembers me.
So I leave them here,
where paper does not interrupt,
and every unfinished sentence
is allowed to breathe.
2. Almost Said
I almost told you
on an ordinary Tuesday,
while the sunlight leaned
against the classroom wall.
The day went on.
The world stayed whole.
Only one small truth
followed me home.
3. Quiet Things
Not every feeling
arrives like thunder.
Some are rain on windows,
a chair left empty,
a name we do not say,
a song turned down
before the best part.
4. A Language of Pauses
We spoke in pauses,
in glances that stayed too long,
in messages typed and deleted,
in questions dressed as jokes.
Maybe we understood.
Maybe we only hoped to.
Some silences are bridges;
some are just distance.
5. The Weight of Maybe
Maybe is a room
with no furniture,
where every possibility
keeps changing places.
I lived there for a while,
waiting for a knock.
Then I opened the door
and met the morning.
6. Small Confessions
I like the sky before rain.
I save notes I never send.
I remember tiny kindnesses
long after grand speeches end.
Here are my small confessions:
I feel more than I show,
and I am learning that honesty
can begin quietly, too.
7. Unsent
This letter has no address,
only a date and a pulse.
It says what I could not say
when courage felt expensive.
I fold it once,
not to hide the truth,
but to give it somewhere
to rest.
8. The Space Between Us
There was a space between us
small enough for a laugh,
large enough for every fear
we never learned to ask.
I cannot measure distance
by steps or miles alone;
sometimes two people sit together
and still feel far from home.
9. When I Go Quiet
When I go quiet,
please do not call it empty.
There are whole conversations
moving furniture in me.
I am sorting what I feel,
trying to name what is true.
Silence is not always absence;
sometimes it is work, too.
10. A Little Too Much
I have been told
my heart is much too full,
as if a feeling were a fault,
as if tenderness were dull.
But I would rather learn
how to hold this overflowing sea
than become a smaller person
just to fit a room neatly.
11. The Truth in My Eyes
My eyes keep old receipts
for moments I pretend to forget.
They remember the kindness,
the almost, the regret.
I can practice being casual,
I can learn a clever disguise,
but some truths keep shining
through the weather of my eyes.
12. If Words Could Stay
If words could stay
where they first were spoken,
we might build little homes
from promises unbroken.
But words are birds;
they leave the hand.
What matters is the care
with which we let them land.
13. The Honest Page
The page asks nothing
except that I begin.
It does not grade my feelings
or ask where I have been.
So here I write the truth
without polishing its face:
I am still becoming,
and that is not a disgrace.
14. A Heart in Pencil
I draw my heart in pencil
so mistakes can be erased.
Then I learn that every line
has helped me find its shape.
Maybe growing is not ink,
not a promise set in stone;
maybe it is sketching gently
a self I can call my own.
