Chapter 1

June, 1981

Sunny was getting ready for THE party of the school year. She was belting out, You’re My Best Friend along with the radio that sat on top of the white and gold claw footed dresser. She applied her makeup not letting the butterflies in her stomach make her hand shake. She took her time, it had to be perfect. Pleased with the outcome, Sunny skipped across the purple shag carpet to get dressed. The new outfit purchased for this special night, was flattering in all the right places. Sunny glanced up her poster of Peter Frampton covering the flowery wallpaper she was starting to outgrow. “Sorry Peter, tonight’s the night. I am going all the way with Teddy tonight.” She giggled.

As she brushed her long golden brown hair her thoughts wandered to Teddy and she wondered what his face would look like when she told him she was ready. Sunny planned their life out. They would marry after college, live in their hometown and have three children. Her best friend Kate would live on the same block with her husband. The thought of living anywhere else never entered her mind. She loved her little town on the south shore of Long Island; some of her best childhood memories were rooted here, like walking down Main Street, where the shop owners knew all of the neighborhood children, just saying hello to everyone she met. It was where she belonged. Seaville was part of who Sunny was, it was home.
