Chapter 1: The Beginning Of A New Life
Romantic Drama Screenplay
Setting: Bel Air, Los Angeles
Genre: Romance, Betrayal, Suspense, Drama
SCENE ONE: A HEART THAT NO LONGER TRUSTS
INT. WILSON ENTERPRISES — AGNES'S OFFICE — MORNING
Sunlight pours through the glass windows overlooking Bel Air. AGNES WILSON, an elegant young businesswoman in her early twenties, sits behind her desk, studying a report.
BETTY, her outspoken best friend, enters carrying two cups of coffee.
BETTY: You've been staring at that report for twenty minutes. Either the numbers are moving, or you're thinking about Matthew again.
AGNES: I'm working, Betty.
BETTY: Of course. And I'm the president of the United States.
Agnes laughs despite herself.
AGNES: I gave two years of my life to someone who never loved me.
Betty's smile disappears.
BETTY: What Matthew did wasn't your fault.
AGNES: I trusted him with everything. Now, whenever someone gets close to me, I wonder what they want.
Betty takes her hand.
BETTY: Not everyone is Matthew.
Agnes looks through the window, unconvinced.
AGNES: I wish I could believe that.
Neither woman notices the shadow moving past the office door.
Someone has been listening.
SCENE TWO: THE PERFECT DECEPTION
INT. WILSON MANSION — AGNES'S BEDROOM — TWO YEARS EARLIER
Agnes stands before a mirror, smiling as she reads a message from Matthew.
She is deeply in love.
AGNES: Clara, do you think Matthew will like this dress?
CLARA, her longtime maid, smiles warmly.
CLARA: He would be foolish not to, Miss Agnes.
Agnes laughs.
AGNES: You're more than a maid to me, Clara. You're family. You know that, don't you?
Clara's expression softens.
Years earlier, when Clara's mother needed urgent financial assistance, Agnes had persuaded her parents to help with the expenses. Agnes had even visited Clara's family afterward, refusing to treat their difficulties as something beneath her concern.
Clara had never forgotten that kindness.
But gratitude did not erase every private struggle.
Clara once dreamed of opening a small fashion boutique. She had saved money, collected designs, and imagined building something of her own. Yet family responsibilities and financial limitations had forced her to abandon the dream.
She kept her designs hidden in a drawer, unable to bear throwing them away.
Watching Agnes pursue opportunities with confidence, Clara sometimes wondered what her own life might have been like.
She hated herself for feeling resentful toward someone who had been so kind to her.
She never told anyone.
Until Matthew discovered her secret.
INT. QUIET RESTAURANT — EVENING
Matthew sits opposite Clara.
He looks charming, polished, and entirely trustworthy.
MATTHEW: I heard you once wanted to open a boutique.
Clara stiffens.
CLARA: Who told you that?
MATTHEW: It doesn't matter. What matters is that I could help you make it happen.
He slides an envelope across the table.
Clara doesn't touch it.
CLARA: Why would you help me?
MATTHEW: Because I know what it's like to want something you can't reach.
The words sound sincere, but his eyes remain calculating.
He explains that he needs information about Agnes. Her schedule. Her meetings. The people she trusts.
Nothing dangerous, he insists. Nothing that could hurt her.
In exchange, he promises to finance Clara's boutique.
CLARA: Agnes has treated me like family for years.
MATTHEW: And she'll continue living her comfortable life whether you accept or not. Tell me, Clara, when will you finally choose yourself?
Clara leaves without accepting his offer.
But the following week, Matthew contacts her again.
This time, Clara accepts the money.
She tells herself she will only share harmless information.
It is the first lie she tells herself.
SCENE THREE: DANIEL'S GAME
INT. DANIEL'S APARTMENT — NIGHT
MATTHEW sits beside his friend DANIEL, watching him type on a laptop.
DANIEL: You want me to make her fall for me?
MATTHEW: I want you to make her trust you.
Daniel smirks.
DANIEL: And when she does?
MATTHEW: You create the evidence. Make it look like she agreed to be your girlfriend while she was still with me.
DANIEL: What if she refuses?
Matthew smiles coldly.
MATTHEW: Then we'll make sure the world never hears her side.
Days later, Daniel begins chatting with Agnes online. He introduces himself as a friendly acquaintance, and their conversations remain innocent.
Eventually, Daniel confesses that he has developed feelings for her.
DANIEL: Agnes, I know you're with Matthew, but I need to be honest. Will you be my girlfriend?
Agnes immediately rejects him.
AGNES: I'm sorry, Daniel, but I love Matthew. I'm committed to him, and that won't change.
Daniel pretends to accept her answer.
Behind the screen, however, he edits their conversations, fabricating messages that make it appear Agnes accepted his proposal.
He sends the screenshots to Matthew.
Meanwhile, Clara quietly provides Matthew with details about Agnes's routines, unaware of how far he intends to take the deception.
Or perhaps, deep down, she already suspects.
She simply refuses to look too closely.
SCENE FOUR: THE FALL
INT. WILSON ENTERPRISES — AGNES'S OFFICE — AFTERNOON
Matthew storms into Agnes's office, holding his phone.
MATTHEW: How long were you planning to make a fool of me?
Agnes rises in confusion.
AGNES: Matthew? What are you talking about?
He throws the phone onto her desk.
The fabricated screenshots stare back at her.
AGNES: These aren't real!
MATTHEW: Don't insult my intelligence.
AGNES: Daniel asked me to be his girlfriend, and I rejected him! You can ask him yourself!
Matthew knows the truth. He helped create the lie.
But he wants Agnes to beg, to panic, and to appear guilty.
MATTHEW: We're finished.
Agnes stares at him, tears gathering in her eyes.
AGNES: Two years, Matthew. You can't throw away two years without even listening to me.
For one brief moment, something flickers across his face.
Then he turns away.
MATTHEW: Watch me.
He leaves.
By evening, the fabricated screenshots spread across social media. Strangers call Agnes unfaithful and accuse her of using Matthew.
Her attempts to explain are drowned out by the scandal.
Inside the mansion, Agnes sits on her bedroom floor, still wearing the clothes she wore to work.
Mrs WILSON kneels beside her daughter.
MRS WILSON: You don't have to prove your worth to people who refuse to hear the truth.
AGNES: He was my first love, Mum. I thought he knew me.
Her mother embraces her.
Outside the bedroom, Clara stands motionless.
She hears Agnes crying.
For the first time, the money in her account feels like something she can never wash her hands of.
SCENE FIVE: A STRANGER WITH KIND EYES
EXT. BEL AIR STREET — AFTERNOON
Months pass.
Agnes returns to work, but her confidence has changed. She keeps people at a distance and buries herself in business.
One afternoon, she collides with ALEXANDER, a handsome, courteous man carrying a stack of documents.
The papers scatter.
ALEXANDER: I'm so sorry. I should have watched where I was going.
Agnes helps him gather them.
AGNES: It's fine.
He recognizes her.
ALEXANDER: You're Agnes Wilson, aren't you? I work with Mr White. He's one of your investors.
She nods.
ALEXANDER: I'm Alexander.
AGNES: Nice to meet you.
He hesitates before smiling.
ALEXANDER: Would you let me buy you a coffee sometime?
Agnes's expression closes.
AGNES: I'm not interested in dating.
ALEXANDER: Then coffee doesn't have to be a date. And if you'd rather not, that's completely fine.
He gives her a respectful nod and walks away.
Agnes watches him leave, surprised that he hasn't pushed the matter.
Across the street, Matthew sees them together.
His jaw tightens.
He had expected Agnes to remain broken.
He hadn't expected her to begin moving forward.
SCENE SIX: THE WALLS BEGIN TO CRUMBLE
INT. UPSCALE RESTAURANT — EVENING
Mr White has invited Agnes, Alexander, and Betty to dinner to discuss a new business proposal.
Betty quickly discovers that Alexander is thoughtful and quietly funny.
BETTY: So, Alexander, do you always look this serious, or is it just because you're sitting beside my best friend?
ALEXANDER: I was serious before dinner. Now I'm reconsidering my life choices.
Betty bursts out laughing.
For the first time in months, Agnes laughs freely.
Later, Alexander finds her standing near the restaurant's balcony.
ALEXANDER: You seem happier when you forget to be careful.
AGNES: Being careful has kept me from getting hurt.
ALEXANDER: Maybe. But it can also keep you from living.
Agnes studies him.
AGNES: Someone I trusted once made me look like a terrible person. Everyone believed him before asking me what happened.
Alexander doesn't interrupt.
ALEXANDER: I'm sorry you went through that.
AGNES: You don't even know the whole story.
ALEXANDER: Then I'll listen if you ever want to tell me.
He doesn't ask for her trust.
He gives her room to decide whether he deserves it.
And that makes all the difference.
SCENE SEVEN: ANOTHER BETRAYAL
INT. WILSON ENTERPRISES — BOARDROOM — MORNING
Agnes enters a meeting to discover confidential company documents have been leaked.
Investors are furious. The leak threatens an important business partnership.
Mr White demands an explanation.
AGNES: I didn't authorize this. Someone is trying to damage the company.
Alexander, who has been helping investigate the situation, looks troubled.
ALEXANDER: I want to believe you, Agnes. But we need to examine the evidence before we can know what's happened.
Her expression hardens.
AGNES: You think I did this?
ALEXANDER: I think we need the truth.
AGNES: That's what Matthew said before he destroyed my life.
She walks out.
Alexander remains behind, shaken.
At the mansion, Clara discovers a message from Matthew demanding additional information. He wants details about the investigation and Agnes's next steps.
Clara realizes that Matthew intends to use the leak to push Agnes's company toward disaster.
She calls him.
CLARA: You promised me this would end.
MATTHEW: I promised you money. I never promised you a clean conscience.
CLARA: You said Agnes wouldn't be seriously hurt.
Matthew laughs.
MATTHEW: You helped me destroy her relationship. Don't pretend you suddenly have a conscience.
He ends the call.
Clara stares at her phone.
For years, she'd been afraid of losing her chance at a better life.
Now she understands what she has already lost.
Her integrity.
SCENE EIGHT: THE CONFESSION
INT. WILSON ENTERPRISES — EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING — DAY
Agnes sits at the head of the boardroom table. Mr White and the investors are discussing the leaked documents.
Alexander stands beside her, presenting the findings of the investigation.
Matthew has arrived, pretending to be concerned about the company's future.
MATTHEW: Perhaps Agnes should step aside until this matter is resolved.
Agnes looks at him with quiet disbelief.
AGNES: You don't get to decide what happens to my company.
Before Matthew can respond, the boardroom doors open.
Clara enters, trembling.
Matthew's expression changes immediately.
MATTHEW: Clara. Leave.
She ignores him.
CLARA: No.
The room falls silent.
Clara looks at Agnes. Tears fill her eyes.
CLARA: I need to tell you the truth.
Agnes rises slowly.
AGNES: What truth?
Clara takes a shaky breath.
CLARA: Matthew planned everything. Daniel fabricated the messages that made it look as though you cheated. I helped Matthew by giving him information about you.
Agnes cannot speak.
CLARA: I knew you hadn't done anything wrong. I knew how much you loved him. But Matthew offered to finance the boutique I'd always dreamed of opening, and I let my resentment and my greed convince me that I could help him without hurting you.
She begins to cry.
CLARA: You treated me like family. When my mother needed help, you didn't turn away. You helped us when you didn't have to. And I repaid you by betraying you.
Agnes's eyes fill with tears, but her voice is steady.
AGNES: I trusted Matthew with my heart. I trusted you with my home. Tell me, Clara… was there anyone in my life who wasn't pretending?
Clara lowers her head.
CLARA: I don't expect you to forgive me. But I won't let him destroy you again.
She places her phone and a collection of messages on the table. They document her communications with Matthew, including his demands for information and evidence of the original scheme.
The records also provide investigators with leads connecting Matthew to the latest attempt to undermine Agnes's company.
Alexander studies the evidence.
ALEXANDER: This gives us a way to trace what happened and establish who was responsible.
Matthew stands abruptly.
MATTHEW: She's lying!
But Clara continues, answering questions and confirming her involvement.
For once, Matthew cannot silence the people telling the truth.
Agnes looks at Clara, torn between anger and disbelief.
AGNES: I don't know if I can ever forgive you.
CLARA: I understand.
AGNES: But I'm glad you finally told the truth.
It isn't forgiveness.
Not yet.
But it is a beginning.
SCENE NINE: THE PRICE OF DECEPTION
INT. WILSON MANSION — LIVING ROOM — NIGHT
The investigation gathers momentum. Daniel's fabricated messages and Matthew's communications are examined. Clara cooperates with investigators and accepts responsibility for her part in the scheme.
Matthew's carefully constructed story begins to collapse as evidence contradicts his accusations and exposes his manipulation.
Agnes's company begins recovering as the team works to establish what was leaked, correct the damage, and reassure its partners.
Later, Alexander visits Agnes in the mansion's garden.
ALEXANDER: I should have been clearer when the evidence first appeared. I was trying to be fair, but I understand why my hesitation hurt you.
AGNES: I was afraid you'd become another person who believed the worst about me.
ALEXANDER: I can't promise I'll never make a mistake. But I can promise to listen, ask questions, and take responsibility when I'm wrong.
Agnes studies his face.
AGNES: I don't know how to trust someone again.
ALEXANDER: You don't have to figure that out tonight.
He leaves the decision in her hands.
Agnes reaches for his hand.
It's a small gesture, but for her, it means everything.
SCENE TEN: THE LOVE THAT REMAINS
EXT. WILSON MANSION GARDEN — SIX MONTHS LATER — EVENING
The garden glows beneath strings of warm lights. Agnes has rebuilt her company's leadership, restored confidence among key partners, and begun reclaiming her peace.
The scandal no longer defines her.
She has also started working toward a dream of her own: expanding her business into a company that supports young entrepreneurs.
Alexander approaches her with two cups of coffee.
ALEXANDER: Still not interested in dating?
Agnes laughs.
AGNES: I'm considering making an exception.
ALEXANDER: I'll try not to let the responsibility go to my head.
She takes his hand.
Their relationship has grown slowly, built on honesty, patience, and respect. Agnes hasn't forgotten her past, but it no longer controls her future.
Across town, Clara begins rebuilding her life. She cannot undo her betrayal or demand Agnes's forgiveness. She starts working honestly toward her own ambitions, understanding that a second chance is something to earn, not something to expect.
Agnes looks up at the evening sky.
AGNES (V.O.): I lost my first love. I lost my trust. For a while, I almost lost myself. But I found the courage to begin again. I learned that love without honesty is only a beautiful lie, and forgiveness cannot be demanded. Sometimes, the greatest victory isn't proving the world wrong. It's finding the strength to rise after the world has broken your heart.
Alexander squeezes her hand gently.
Agnes smiles.
AGNES (V.O.): I lost a love once. But I found something greater.
She turns toward him.
AGNES (V.O.): I found myself.
FADE TO BLACK.
