Bittersweet Announcement

The afternoon sun streamed through the large windows of Room 204, casting a warm, golden light over walls decorated with colorful multiplication charts, reading logs, and years of student artwork. For twenty-two years, Room 204 had belonged to Mrs. Jasmine.

She was the kind of teacher every student remembered for the rest of their lives—the one who read Charlotte’s Web with unforgettable character voices and kept a stash of gold stars in her desk drawer for whenever someone finally mastered their eight-times tables. But this school year was different. Big, exciting changes were waiting for her just beyond the classroom door. Mrs. Jasmine was getting married, and in just a few short weeks, she would be moving across the country to start a brand-new chapter of her life.

When Mrs. Jasmine first shared the news with her third graders during morning meeting, the room went entirely silent—a rare occurrence for twenty-four energetic eight-year-olds.

"Are you going to forget us?" asked Leo, his eyes wide as he clutched his favorite dog-eared chapter book.

"Never," Mrs. Jasmine said softly, kneeling down so she was at eye level with the circle. "Every single one of you has a place in my heart forever. But life is full of big adventures, and it’s time for my next one."

From that day on, the countdown to the end of the school year felt different. The children were excited for her, but they were determined to make her last year the most memorable one yet.
