Meet Melo
Once upon a time, in a forest full of flowers and fireflies, there lived a tiny ghost named Melo.
Melo was soft and round like a marshmallow, with pink cheeks, big sparkling eyes, and a little curl on his head.
He lived beneath an old oak tree in a cozy woodland shelter, where a golden lantern glowed every night.
Melo loved his forest home.
There was only one thing missing.
A friend.
Every morning, he waved at the rabbits, squirrels, and birds.
But the animals had never met a ghost before.
The rabbits gave frightened little squeaks and hurried away.
Melo lowered his tiny arms.
He wasn’t trying to scare anyone. He just wanted to say hello.
That evening, Melo sat beside his lantern and watched the stars appear.
Then, suddenly—
BOOM!
Thunder shook the forest.
Rain splashed against the leaves, and the animals hurried home.
But one little creature hadn’t made it back.
A baby hedgehog sat beneath a dripping leaf, trembling in the rain.
Melo spotted him from beneath the oak tree.
He gave a tiny surprised squeak.
He picked up his lantern and floated toward the clearing.
The baby hedgehog looked up.
His eyes widened, and he let out a startled little squeak.
He curled into a frightened little ball.
Melo stopped.
He carefully placed his glowing lantern where the hedgehog could see it, then floated back and gave a shy wave.
The little hedgehog peeked out.
A cold raindrop landed on his nose.
Melo looked around, found a big green leaf, and held it above him like an umbrella.
The hedgehog blinked.
His tiny nose twitched as he looked up at the leaf, then back at Melo.
Soon, the little hedgehog followed Melo to the open shelter beneath the oak tree.
They sat together in the warm lantern light while the rain pattered around them.
And when the hedgehog began to shiver, Melo gently moved the lantern a little closer.
By morning, the clouds had disappeared.
The hedgehog gave an excited little squeak and perked up.
His family came hurrying through the clearing.
They hugged their little one, then looked at Melo.
Melo gave his tiniest wave.
This time, nobody ran away.
The hedgehog’s mother smiled.
Soon, the whole forest heard about the little ghost who had helped a lost baby.
The rabbits brought flowers. The squirrels shared berries. And the baby hedgehog made Melo a crown of daisies.
Melo’s cheeks glowed pink.
For the first time, he had friends.
That evening, the forest animals gathered beneath the old oak tree. They played, giggled, and watched fireflies dance around the golden lantern.
And Melo?
He smiled so wide that his whole little face seemed to shine.
His little heart was bursting with happiness. For so long, the woodland animals had been afraid of him simply because he was a ghost.
But now they knew him for the gentle little friend he truly was.
And for the first time, Melo had friends of his very own.
As evening settled over the forest, the woodland animals returned carrying tiny lanterns of their own.
One by one, they hung them alongside Melo’s golden lantern beneath the old oak tree.
Soon, the little shelter glowed with warm, beautiful lights.
Melo looked around at his friends, his eyes sparkling with joy.
His little lantern wasn’t shining alone anymore.
And neither was he.
Because sometimes, when we take the time to understand someone, we discover a beautiful friendship waiting to begin.
The End.
