Summary

DARK CHOCOLATE A bitter taste, for a bitter bite. Tell me-was it the ricin, or the cyanide? One year ago, the Moscow Bratva sealed two alliances in blood and gold. Ilya Volkov married the ice-cold princess of St. Petersburg. Yuri Volkov married the volatile heiress of the Urals. It was supposed to bring peace. Instead, it brought a cold war into Viktor Volkov's dining room. Tonight, the three most powerful syndicates in Russia sit at one table to celebrate the anniversary. The crystal is fine, the vodka is freezing, and the dark chocolate is seventy percent cocoa-bitter enough to hide the truth, and heavy enough to mask a lethal dose. Before the plates are cleared, someone at the table is dead. The doors are locked. The alliances are shattered. And in a family of strategists, enforcers, and liars, everyone has a motive, everyone has a secret, and no one is leaving Moscow alive until the debt is paid.

Notebook #12 — Recipe Adaptation:

Base: 200g dark couverture (minimum 70% cacao solids). Anything lower requires too much dairy and sugar, which ruins the palate and fails to mask the secondary notes.

Temper carefully: Melt to 45°C, cool to 27°C, rewarm to 31°C. Do not exceed 50°C during the final fold—excessive heat denatures delicate plant proteins.

Note on flavour profile: High-alkaloid cacao naturally carries a heavy, roasted astringency. When finished with coarse sea salt, the human tongue cannot distinguish between the natural bitterness of the bean and the faint, bitter-almond trace of potassium salt.

Yield: Two pieces. One for the fast. One for the slow.

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.
