Murthy's Unwavering Loyalty: A Dog's Sacrifice
There was once a man who had a dog named Murthy. The man often mistreated Murthy, believing that dogs were meant to endure suffering. He would kick, scold, and beat Murthy for the smallest reasons, yet the faithful dog never stopped loving him.
Whenever the man was angry or frustrated, he took it out on Murthy. Yet, no matter how much pain he endured, Murthy always wagged his tail and stayed by his master's side. His love was unconditional, even when it was never returned.
One cold night, as the man lay asleep in his small, dimly lit hut, a venomous snake slithered in through a crack in the wall. Its forked tongue flicked in and out as it silently approached the bed, ready to strike. Murthy, curled up near the door, sensed something was wrong. His ears perked up, and he saw the snake creeping toward his master.
Without hesitation, Murthy barked loudly, breaking the silence of the night. His sharp cries startled the man awake. Annoyed at first, the man was about to scold the dog when he saw the snake just inches away.
Before he could react, Murthy sprang forward, teeth bared, and sank his fangs into the snake's body. A fierce struggle ensued as the snake hissed and coiled around Murthy, trying to escape. But Murthy refused to let go. He bit harder, shaking the snake violently until it finally lay still-dead.
The man sighed in relief, but his relief turned to horror as he saw Murthy stumble. A deep wound on his leg oozed with venom, and his body trembled as the poison spread. The dog let out a soft whimper and collapsed onto the floor.
The man rushed to his side, but it was too late. Murthy's breathing became labored, his eyes growing dim. Yet, even in his final moments, he looked at his master with love, his tail wagging weakly. With one last breath, he managed a small smile, as if to say, "I was happy to protect you."
The man, overwhelmed with grief, fell to his knees beside his fallen companion. Guilt consumed him as he realized the depth of Murthy's love. All those years of cruelty, all the times he had struck the dog—Murthy had never once held it against him.
Tears streamed down the man's face as he cradled Murthy's lifeless body. He whispered words of regret, but it was too late. The loyal dog who had loved him unconditionally was gone.
From that day on, the man changed. He never owned another dog, believing he did not deserve such devotion. But he spent the rest of his life feeding and caring for stray dogs, hoping that in some way, he could make up for the love he had failed to return to Murthy.
And every night, he sat by his doorstep, looking up at the stars, whispering Murthy's name, knowing that somewhere, the loyal dog was watching over him.
