In The Rain
She stood in the rain with her hands outstretched and her chin lifted towards the sky. She called to the corners, the heavens above, and the earth below. This was her prayer, her connection to her divine. Her bare feet in the soil grounded her spirit, and the cleaning energy surrounding her renewed her soul.
She spun and twirled, wishing that the momentum alone would thrust her worries and the weight she carried back to wherever it had come from. She tried. She tried to unburden her mind and her doubts. She tried to refind her footing as she spun and spun, but it just made her dizzy. So she stopped and let the rain wash down her face and down her body, making her clothes cling.
He stood at the window watching her, so close but so far away from where her spirit danced. He knew every line of her form as it emerged through wet clothes hugging her curves. He knew the tension in her shoulders and the way her lifted chin looked like a dare. He knew this was when she cried. When the tears would mix with the rain so no one would know. He couldn’t begin to understand what was going through her mind as she spun and twirled or what made her stop.
They stood that way for quite some time. Her lost in the release and recharge she ached for. Him lost in the experience of watching her. He opened the door slowly, unsure but called to her. He let the rain wash over him too and let her presence be what cleansed his pain. Walking up to her, he held her face with both hands and kissed her deeply and passionately. He could taste the saltiness of her tears that he knew would be there. He looked at her eyes as he pulled away, and her eyes gleamed as her soul landed where she needed it to be. He slowly turned around and walked away, knowing that her journey was her own but grateful to be part of it.
