All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Two fated mates. Twin brothers. One contract with an expiration date. What could possibly go wrong? Apparently, everything. At nineteen, Clover has spent her entire life protected by the Wolf King, hiding secrets even she doesn’t fully understand. Then she meets Malic and Cage. Twin brothers. Future leaders of the Pale Moon Pack. And somehow, both of them are her mates. One offers her a contract. The other makes it very clear he doesn’t want her. All Clover has to do is survive two years without losing her heart, keep her secrets buried, and walk away when the contract ends. But mates were never meant to be temporary. And Clover is beginning to realize the twins might not be the most dangerous secret in her life.

Chapter 1 The Contract

Chapter 1

“The Contract”

POV Clover

It’s late when my stepfather arrives with me and his guards at the Pale Moon Pack that is six hours away from home. The pack has been having problems with rogues.

My stepfather, Morpheus, is the Wolf King, and the Pale Moon Pack are his allies.

The Alpha, Kaden, meets us at the gate with his twin sons, Malic and Cage.

“Welcome to the Pale Moon Pack, Your Highness. We appreciate you taking the time to visit. Perhaps together, we can come up with a solution for the rogues,” Kaden says, an arm around each of his sons.

Malic and Cage look at me like I’m a prize to be won.

Even though I’m only Morpheus’s stepdaughter, many men seek me out as their chosen mate.

They want to form an alliance until they find out I’ve never shifted. My wolf is there. She talks to me. I have unusual powers that most don’t know about.

‘Mate,’ my wolf screams in my head.

“Quiet, Amber. They cannot know. They will keep me here and never let me leave.”

‘Two mates. Twice the fun,’ Amber squeals in joy. ‘Maybe one of them will mark us and we can finally shift.’

Two?

I stare between the brothers.

Of all the wolves in the world, the Goddess gives me two mates, and they have to be brothers.

My heart stills.

Judging by the way they’re staring at me, I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

The brothers both have pale, haunting green eyes, dark hair, and are breathtakingly handsome, dripping with danger and sin. Their broad shoulders and rippling muscles make them look like they could each take on a mountain lion and win.

They watch my every move.

Perhaps they already know I’m their mate, and I can’t shift.

We walk to the pack house, and Kaden takes my stepfather off to his office and leaves me with his sons.

“How old are you?” Cage asks.

“Nineteen.”

“You’ve never shifted?” Malic asks.

“No.”

“My father is one of the most powerful Alphas next to the King. Why would our mate be weak and wolfless?” Malic asks.

“I can hear my wolf. I just can’t shift.”

“You’re useless to us,” Malic says.

My heart pounds.

If only he knew.

I could show him exactly how useless I am, but Mother made me promise years ago to keep my abilities hidden.

Until I know who I can trust, Malic can think whatever he wants.

I sigh and walk toward the front door of the pack house and attempt to step out for some fresh air. This is not how I expected my first meeting with my mate to go.

Malic grabs my wrist.

“Are you wolfless and stupid? There are rogues out there that will rip you apart. Your stepfather will kill us if anything happens to you.”

I shove him off me when Cage grabs my hand.

“I apologize for my brother,” Cage says. “He can be quite blunt. I’m the youngest of the two of us, and I’d really like to get to know you.”

“Even a girl who can’t shift?” Malic shakes his head.

“I don’t care. I’ll never be the pack Alpha. I just want to marry my mate.”

“Marry? I’m only nineteen.”

“Then, how about a two-year marriage contract with me? When it’s done, we can split up or stay together.”

“You just want the Alpha King to favor you,” Malic growls at Cage. “He is only going to use you. Then, throw you away. No one wants a rejected girl.”

‘Would it hurt to get to know our mates?’ Amber asks. ‘It’s only for two years.’

Only two years.

I look at Cage again.

I’ve spent my whole life protected by Father.

Two years away from home might finally give me a chance to figure out who I am without being the Wolf King’s precious stepdaughter.

And with Cage being my mate, maybe two years would be enough to find out if this could become something real.

Still.

“I don’t want to be rejected by my mate, Amber.”

‘There is always a risk of rejection no matter who your mate is,’ Amber warns.

“Hello, are you going to answer him?” Malic asks. “Or just stand there looking stupid?”

“You seem to like that word, Malic. Perhaps you are the one who is stupid,” I hiss.

Malic gets in my face. “Watch your tongue, mate, or I will break you.”

“Then you will answer to my father.”

“I’m not afraid of you or your stepfather. Don’t threaten me again.” Malic leaves me alone with Cage.

“Marry me. I will never mark you because you’re wolfless, but I will take care of you for the rest of your life.”

“What’s the point if you don’t mark me? Don’t I just become your mistress unmarked?”

“Not if I marry you, Clover.” He moves closer to me, lacing his fingers through mine as sparks dance across my skin where our fingers touch.

He leans in and brushes his lips against mine. Tingles spread across my face when Father walks out with the pack Alpha.

I jump away from Cage, and Father raises a brow.

“Come, Clover. It’s time for bed,” Father says. “I’ll continue my meeting in the morning.” He puts out his hand.

I jump up, walk over, and take his hand.

Father is very protective of me. He says I’m the spitting image of my mother, and he loved her dearly. I may not be his blood, but he treats me better than any of his children.

I never knew my real father. Mother only said he was very powerful.

Father walks me upstairs to the guest floor, pours me a glass of wine, and grabs a whisky.

“You like that boy. I’ve never seen you let a boy touch you. Is he your mate?”

“Both boys are my mates. Cage said he will not mark me because I’ve never shifted, but he asked for a two-year marriage contract.”

“To win my favor or because of his interest in you, Clover?”

“Both, I think.”

“The Lycan King’s son wants to see you again now that you’re of age. Are you sure this is what you want?”

“I don’t know what I want.”

“At the end of the contract, if it doesn’t work, you can come home. The marriage will be dissolved, and you can move on. If he doesn’t mark you, then no rejection needs to take place,” Father explains.

“Then maybe not marking me is best.”

“I will speak with his father. I don’t like the idea of this. Something about it unsettles my wolf. I will do whatever you ask, Clover.”

“Thanks, Father.” I smile and lean against him.

He only has biological sons. Hence why I’m his favorite. He’s always wanted a girl.

“Get some sleep. It’s a big day tomorrow.” Father sucks back his whisky and heads to bed.

I sip at my wine in front of the fire when the front door opens.

Malic walks up. “It is only proper that you marry me, the oldest. I will agree to a two-year contract and keep a mistress, and you can be with my brother.”

“No, I will marry Cage.”

“That is not up for negotiation.” He growls and grabs me by the wrists, pulling my face against his.

He kisses me, not sweet or kind, but hungrily, like he’s always wanted to kiss his mate.

Sparks fly from my face to my core, heating me from the inside out. My body melts into him. I suddenly ache for him and want to pull off his clothes and do such terrible things.

“That’s enough,” my father yells. “I understand she is your mate. You will show some respect toward my daughter, or you will deal directly with me.”

Father’s eyes turn molten. His wolf is very protective of me.

“I apologize, Your Highness. I’m just excited to finally meet my mate.” Malic steps back, slowly sliding his fingers down my arm as sparks dance across our skin. Then he leaves without another word.

Father watches him leave before turning to me.

“I should break every bone in that boy’s body, but my wolf doesn’t consider him a threat.”

I look at him, bewildered.

Father taps his nose. “I can smell fear, Clover. You were angry, embarrassed, and far too interested in that kiss, but you weren’t afraid of him.”

My cheeks flush.

“That doesn’t mean I like him.”

Father smirks. “I didn’t say you did.”

Father locks the front door and heads back to bed with a smirk on his face.

I wake up the next morning with a wedding dress across my bed. It’s stunning. My father has left a note.

‘I never wanted you to find your mate. I wanted to keep you as my little girl forever. Malic has asked for a two-year contract, and I have agreed. Remember, you can leave the contract at any time, Princess.’

Love, Father.

I lower the note and stare at the dress.

I’m getting married.

Yesterday morning, I didn’t even know my mates existed.

My heart pounds as I touch the fabric.

“What the hell am I doing, Amber?”

‘Getting married.’

I groan and drop backward onto the bed.

Maybe I’m completely insane.

Then again, I have two years to find out.

I get dressed and run downstairs for breakfast, and Dad has the hugest smile on his face.

The brothers are arguing over who should marry me.

“I want to marry her,” Cage growls. “Malic wanted nothing to do with her. It’s not fair.”

“You’re both her mates. Only one of you has to marry her,” Kaden says. “Both of you can take care of her.”

The boys end up beating each other black and blue.

My City Hall wedding is to a black-and-blue Malic in a tux.

Kaden places several papers in front of me.

“Marriage contract and certificate.”

Father has already signed as a witness.

“Everything is as we discussed?” I ask.

“Yes,” Father says.

I trust him.

I sign where Kaden points and hand the papers back without looking at the other signature.

Malic leans in to kiss me after we’re pronounced man and wife. Sparks fly between us, and he wraps his arms around me longer than I would have expected.

The whole pack celebrates as Malic’s father announces he will become Alpha at the next full moon in three weeks.

On my wedding night, Malic takes me to Cage’s room.

“I only married you to earn favor from your father. I have a mistress. It is only her that I want. Your father isn’t aware that Cage’s name is on the marriage contract and certificate. You will be my Luna in name only.”

I stare at him.

My stomach drops.

I think about the papers I signed without reading them properly.

“You let me stand there believing I was marrying you?”

Malic shrugs.

“Then what the hell was today?”

“A wedding.”

“To who?”

His mouth curves into a cruel smile.

“You should have read the paperwork, Clover.”
