Chapter 1: One Street, One Ball
"Every legend has a beginning. Ours began on one street in Lagos."
The afternoon sun blazed over the narrow streets of Lagos, Nigeria.
Children ran barefoot, traders shouted from roadside stalls, and the smell of roasted corn filled the air.
But on one dusty street, nothing else mattered.
"Pass! Pass!" Uche shouted as he sprinted down the right wing.
Good luck flicked the ball over a defender's foot before sending a perfect pass into space.
Uche raced onto it, cut inside, and crossed the ball into the middle.
Anu controlled it with one touch.
"Mine!" Ebube yelled.
Instead of shooting, Anu slipped the ball to Ebube, who fired it into the corner of two stacked bricks serving as a goal.
"GOAL!"
The boys exploded into cheers.
"That's three-two!" Favor laughed.
"No way," Mohammed argued, picking up the ball. "It's three-three. You people can't even count."
Promise folded his arms and shook his head.
"If I was in defence from the beginning, nobody would have scored."
Everyone burst into laughter.
This wasn't just another football match.
It was what they did every single day.
Good luck, Anu, Ebube, Favor, Uche, Promise, and Mohammed lived on the same street, though in different houses. From morning until sunset, football brought them together.
The neighbours knew exactly where to find them.
"The football boys are playing again," an old woman smiled as she watched from her shop.
Good luck placed the ball in the middle of the road and looked at his friends.
"One day..."
Everyone turned to him.
"...we won't be using bricks as goalposts anymore."
Silence.
"We'll play in the biggest stadiums."
"For Liverpool!" Anu shouted.
"For Liverpool!" Uche repeated.
"For Liverpool!" everyone yelled together.
They joined hands in the middle.
"No matter what happens..."
"We make it together," Promise finished.
The seven boys smiled.
They had no idea that one promise would change their lives forever.
As the sun began to set, they walked home, still talking about football.
"I'll win the Ballon d'Or first," Good luck said confidently.
Uche laughed.
"Keep dreaming. I'll win it before you."
"We'll see," Good luck replied with a grin.
Little did they know, the road ahead would be filled with sacrifices, heartbreak, victories, unforgettable moments... and a dream that would take them far beyond the streets of Lagos.
Their journey had only just begun.
To be continued...
