Summary

They say the moon is a silent witness to the world’s secrets. They are wrong. The moon does not merely watch. It hungers. It remembers. And for a thousand years, it poured its wild, forbidden magic into a single, extraordinary lineage—the Lunatic Witches. Daughters of tempest and tide, keepers of silver fire, wielders of storms born from heartbreak. The world feared them, so the world hunted them. They put their sanctuaries to the torch and erased their names from the histories, convinced they had extinguished the lunar bloodline forever. They thought the fire was out. They were wrong about that, too. Deep in the quiet village of Oakhaven, buried beneath seventeen years of dark lies, iron locks, and salt lines, a dormant spark burns in the dark. The veil is thinning. The spell is dying. And when the tide finally breaks, the night will reclaim its queen.

Chapter 1: The Silver Pull

Celenia sat on the edge of her windowsill, her hazel-gray eyes reflecting the luminous glow of the full moon. At seventeen, she felt a restless energy she couldn’t explain. While the village of Oakhaven slept, she felt truly awake only when the moon was high. Her light brown hair was pulled back in a loose braid, but strands always escaped, dancing in the nocturnal breeze.

She lived with her three aunties—Elara, Maeve, and Sybil. They were protective to the point of obsession, never letting her stray into the Whispering Woods after dusk. “The shadows have teeth, child,” Aunt Maeve would warn, her eyes darting to the old iron-bound chest in the cellar. Celenia never knew what was inside, only that it hummed whenever she walked past.

The night of her eighteenth birthday arrived with an unnatural stillness. As the clock struck twelve, Celenia didn’t feel older; she felt broken open. A searing pain erupted in her chest, and memories that weren’t hers flooded her mind: the smell of burning sage, the flash of a silver blade, and a woman’s voice whispering, “Hide her light, hide her blood, until the moon claims its own.”

She fell to her knees, sobbing. As her tears hit the floor, a thunderclap shook the cottage. Outside, the clear sky vanished behind a wall of black clouds. A torrential downpour began, so fierce it threatened to drown the world. Every time Celenia’s anger flared at the confusion, the wind howled louder, snapping branches in the garden.

Aunt Elara burst into the room, her face a mask of grief. “The spell has failed. The Lunatic blood has awakened.” She explained the truth: Celenia was the last of the Lunatic Witches, a rare line whose magic was tied to the lunar cycles. Her parents had been murdered by a shadowy cabal, and the aunties had spent eighteen years suppressing her magic to keep her invisible to the hunters.
