Summary

n 1617, a penniless laird digs for water under his crumbling castle and breaks into a cave that breathes. Inside, he finds a woman who has been waiting there for nearly two hundred years—carrying a ledger, a ring, and the last words of a house that keeps what it loves. She knows every debt, every birth, and every secret the walls have held since 1424. He knows only that if the Earl’s factor or the kirk learns where she came from, they will burn her. Together they must keep the house, the books, and each other—before the stone decides what it will keep instead.
