𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒓, 𝒔𝒆𝒂 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔.
Kiro ran into the empty beach. People didn’t really visit at this hour, making it perfect for them to roam around as they pleased.
Luka followed behind. He was the silent kind, always observed things most probably forgot to heed.
Kiro yelled with joy, spinning in the sand like a child. Running along the shore and jumping when a wave crashed against the sand.
“Come on, Luka!” he yelled happily, “It’s so fun!”
Luka shook his head. “Impossible.” he muttered, shoving his hands in his pockets.
Pleasant zephyr hit his sandy hair as he gazed at the guy running like a maniac.
“You’re gonna fall.” he called out. Kiro tripped on seaweed.
Luka sighed.
He caught up with Kiro, who sat with sand in his hair. He grinned stupidly at his friend.
“You have sand in your hair.” Luka pointed out in a deadpanned voice.
Kiro grinned stupidly, “then my hair will be blonde like you! Blond and beautiful.” he said , shaking his head and showering sand around him. It had pretty well sunk in his dark brown strands.
Luka didn’t reply, instead he gazed out to the blue sea. It matched his eyes. A beautiful sunset was painted on the sky above. Dusk was definitely his favourite.
Kiro followed his gaze and pushed off the ground, “It’s like when you come out of a hot bath.” he said. Luka frowned at him, he continued as if he was telling sacred information, “You turn as red as the sunset.”
Luka sighed, “Why are you so weird?”
Kiro laughed. Bending down to pick up a seashell.“That’s how I am.” he said.
Luka continued his stroll, Kiro skipped beside him. They spotted starfishes and sea cucumbers lying with clumps of seaweed.
Kiro bent down to prod a cucumber with a stick, he wheezed, “hey Luka, this looks like a p-”
Thwak!
Luka hit Kiro’s head and said, “shut up.”
“Mhn!” Kaito moaned, “You hit me all the time.”
Luka stared, “watch your mouth, you inappropriate being.”
Kiro smirked, “Sensitive.”
Luka wasn’t impressed, he turned away to face the waves instead. Somehow he was used to peace and chaos at the same time. Kiro had been by his side since middle school.
A friend and a pain in the ass.
“Luka~,” Kiro sang, “Come chase me~!”
“We are not playing chase.” Luka replied firmly, running a hand through his luxurious hair.
Kiro pouted “Oh, don’t be a killjoy. Play with me.”
“You’re not 13, you’re a 27 year old grown man.”
“Well, you’re a 28 year old grandpa.” Kiro huffed.
“So?” Luka raised an eyebrow, “Any problem?”
Kiro twirled and embraced Luka from behind, “You’re lucky I love you.”
Luka sighed, “Can’t you ever be serious in life?”
Kiro pulled away, a sudden spark in his eyes. He placed both his hands on the taller one’s shoulder. A gust of wind flapped their beach shirts.
“Do you want me to be serious?” He asked.
Luka frowned, “Is that possible?”
Kiro really seemed to be serious. He took a deep breath.
“Luka, I’m being serious, I wanted to do this for over seven years.”
A pause.
“Luka, tell me. How much do I mean to you?”
Luka tilted his head. It was really unusual to see Kiro speak like an ‘adult’. Either he talked absolute 3am bullshit or... Absolute 3am bullshit??
“What do you mean?” he asked. He felt Kiro’s fingers tighten on his shoulder.
“What if I say something that will either be the end of us or the fresh start?” asked Kiro in a pained voice.
“Kiro, speak already-”
“I love you.”
Direct. No pause. Luka blinked.
