Prologue

The footsteps of a panicked, solitude man echoed the corridor of the local museum after hours. The only source of light comes from the streetlamps and shined through the windows like beams eliminating the walls and floors every couple of feet. One hand drags his blazer on the floor behind him, the other clenches to a leather, coded briefcase. The man would be sharply dressed, but wears his suit like everyday clothes and what should be a crisp white shirt is wrinkled and full of sweat stains.

The slamming of a door stops him in his tracks and he stares towards the darkness. Out walks a shadow, dressed head to toe in black that appears and vanishes in-between the lit areas as it gets closer to the perspiring man. Dropping his jacket, he turns around and flees.

He bursts through every door and thumps into every wall at every corner. Making his way to the fire exit as he runs through the main hall. And then realizes that there is nobody following him anymore. He stops and scours the main hall, peering between each display, hopelessly trying to spot the shadowed man in the darkness. Silence falls on the hall and the only thing he can hear is his own breathing and the thumping of his dashing heartbeat inside his ears.

He turns towards the exit, and is confronted with the shadow once more. He lets out a puny yelp but is unable to muster up a scream as he falls to the floor. ‘No, no!’ he pleads. ‘I’m sorry, I won’t tell anyone’.

The shadow stops and looks down at the trembling man. ‘From the mouth of the righteous comes the fruit of wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be silenced’ he reaches into his cloak and pulls out a blade ‘and your tongue Edward Peters, is very perverse indeed’. He launches at the man, swinging his blade. Blood is scattered across the main hall of the Museum as he tries to scream for help until the attacker silences him by swiping his blade across his neck. The man lays in a pool of his own blood as the shadow strolls to collect the briefcase before vanishing back into the darkness.

Elysiagems: Hi Marcy,I went into The Pack - On the Run bracing myself for the usual "oops, I’m a werewolf clichés, but then Josie’s dad decided to skip the Father of the Year awards and go full-blown villain at a petrol station. Honestly, I didn’t expect to be nodding along with the tension instead of rolling m...

Isabella: This book is relatively fast paced, good character development & interesting plot. As far as shifter stories go, it’s a little off the ‘norm’. YukkeTee: This isn’t just a romance. It’s the kind of slow-burn, messy kind of love that feels real—where two people carry scars and walls, and still choose each other anyway.
