“I just want to help him, you know? He needs help, but he won’t admit because he wants to be the strong father figure for me. It’s sweet, but it still stresses me out.”
I rolled around my bed as I twirled my hair around my finger. I had my phone laying somewhere with the speaker on and my girl on the other end.
“But if you did decide to get a job and help him, how will you tell him? Won’t he get mad?” Jennie asks.
“I don’t think I can get a good job in the first place without my father knowing that I’m working. Can you believe that? My father knows almost every company known in the city! I tried to apply for this business company and the manager ratted me out to him. Mission totally failed.”
“No way. Not every company.”
“I can’t believe it either. He’s trying so hard to get me to live my life without worrying about money, but that’s all I’m worried about now.”
“Can’t you just let him do it?”
“I wish....but I’m so worried about him. I want him to live a relaxing life too and there he is, working his butt off 24/7.”
Jennie lets out a soft, sympathetic sigh. “Whatever you think is best is what you’re going to end up doing, babe, so all I can say is GOOD LUCK!”
I laughed. “True, though. Thanks.”
“Alright, I gotta go. Library is opening soon. I’ll see you later, alright?”
“Yeah, yeah. Alright, bye.”
“Bye.”
I hang up the phone and relaxed on my kingsize for another minute.
It’s been several months and I’m still having conflicted choices in my mind.
Even if I wanted to help my father out and get a job where it’ll pay me well, where can I even find a place that will?
It’s honestly impossible.
I let out a defeated sigh and stood up from my bed. I headed to the bathroom to get ready for the day.
I drove by to my favorite breakfast cafe and bought some food for myself and Namjoon.
Every Friday we would have breakfast together and have one of those deep chats that make me question humanity and our existence.
Last week, he missed it because he had to work early, so today, I hope he remembers.
He’s sometimes forgetful.
I park outside his lawn and made my way up his long driveway.
I walked by his multiple cars that probably cost my entire life savings. Once, I just touched the car and I felt like I lost some money.
I make it to his door and I ring the doorbell.
I hummed to myself as I waited for him to answer.
He didn’t come to the door instantly, like usual, so he’s probably in his backyard or upstairs. The house is pretty big, but the doorbell should ring loud enough.
He’s home, I know he is. His car is parked out.
I turned around and stared at the scenery his front lawn held.
It was beautiful.
With the morning glow and the summery breeze, made me feel relaxed just to stand here.
I’m a sucker for a good view.
I mean, my house is nice too, but Namjoon has the best scenery since his home isn’t really close to any other houses like mine. His is on a hill that overlooks the city and it’s breathtaking at night.
“Emi?”
I turned back and saw Namjoon holding the door open. He was wearing sunglasses and plain white tee with swim shorts.
Probably about to go swimming.
“Hey, Namjoon.” I smiled and held up the bag of food. “Good morning!”
He looked at the bag and his mouth opened.
I scoffed at his lost gaze. “You forgot, didn’t you?”
“Yes, I’m sorry, but you can still come in. I haven’t had breakfast yet.” He moved out of the way and let out a chuckle.
“Wow, so you just want the food?” I teased and took off my shoes. “Such a gentlemen.”
“Wait, before you come in, there’s-”
“There’s a mess in the living room. I know, Namjoon. You always tell me that. I’ll go put this on the dining table.”
I walk ahead to the grand living room to set down the food on the fancy dining table.
His dining room was connected to the kitchen and also the backyard. There was a glass sliding door that led to the back yard and the view of his pool was the first thing you see.
I looked outside and almost dropped the precious food on the marbled floor.
Of all days....
“Ho-Hoseok.” I choked out and covered my mouth.
My ex husband was standing by the pool, shirtless. He was stretching his arms above his head and EVERYTHING can be seen with the morning sun shining on his back.
I haven’t seen him in almost a year and this is how we reunite?!
Namjoon runs in and immediately goes to close the curtains.
“Namjoon, why is he here?” I whisper yelled at my friend.
“He’s my friend too, Em. He came to visit without telling me and we were about to go swimming together...” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I tried to tell you....and you looked really excited.....”
“Well, I’m not excited anymore! Putting people that hate each other together is not a smart idea, Namjoon!”
“Unless they were ex lovers...”
Namjoon and I turned to the wet man, who had his head peeking through the curtains.
“Hey, babe.” He winks towards me.
I glared without an response.
Just seeing him gets me so angry and insecure inside. I left him for a reason and I don’t plan on being with him again ever.
Namjoon stood in between us, switching gazes back and fourth with awkwardness.
He was in between the tension and watching him get flustered was the only funny thing about this situation.
I set down the food on the table and turned to Namjoon.
“I’ll be leaving now.” I said, trying to keep my cool. “I see that you’re busy. I’ll leave you two alone.”
“Wait, Em, let’s have breakfast together. I promised, please?” Namjoon stopped me before I could leave the dining room.
“Fine.” I bite the inside of my lip. “Hoseok can’t eat any of the food I brought, though.”
“Fine by me.” Hoseok shrugs with a cocky grin. “I don’t eat food that costs less than that anyways.”
He turns back to the pool and I was about to tackle him down, but Namjoon grabs me by the waist just before and holds me back.
“I will punch him so hard one day, Namjoon. One day, I will. And you won’t be there to hold me back!” I hissed and stared at the cocky jerkface, who was already swimming around in the pool.
“Let’s eat, Emi. Maybe you’re just hungry.” Namjoon says and leads me to the chair.
“Whatever. I hate that man, you know I do.”
“I know, but if we’re in my house, you can’t kill the man, ok?”
He sits down across from me with his back towards the backyard, so Hoseok wasn’t in my sight.
“But I can poison his food and it’ll be the food’s fault, not mine.” I huffed as I stabbed my food with my chopsticks. “He can finally suffocate and suffer and no one can save him. He will die slowly with his insides slowly dissolving in his own body acid and when it’s done, he’ll be nothing, but dirt that we all step on.”
“.........so, um, how was your morning?”
