Chapter 1

*Sofie’s point of view*

I tie my shoe laces then grab my water. I walk out the door and turn on my music as loud as possible. I turn the corner then begin my jog. I focus on the beat of the music. It helps cancel everything out and make jogging more peaceful. I feel my feet hit the ground in sync with the music. I smile a bit staring down at my feet.

Staring at my feet was a bad idea because I couldn’t see where I was going. I collide with something hard then hit the cement. I groan in pain and hold the back of my head. Bad bad idea. “Are you okay?!“, Someone asks me. I can hear the panic filled in their voice. “Mhm yeah”, I say. I open my eyes to meet someone’s brown orbs. I blink twice trying to get my vision to focus.

I can see a silhouette of a boy. I stare in his brown eyes. Without seeing his face expression I can tell he’s worried. “Are you sure you’re okay?“, He asks again. “Maybe”, I mumble unsure. He holds out his hand for me to take. I put my hand in his and he pulls me up. I stumble a bit unable to keep my balance.

“Woah”, He says putting his hands on my waist to keep me up. I can feel my cheeks turning bright red. I finally look at his face. Even with the blurry vision I can tell he’s attractive. I bite my lip nervously out of habit. Usually I wouldn’t be this way but this boy is making me nervous.

I look around trying to figure out what I bumped into. “Did I bump into you?“, I question. “I guess neither of us saw where we were going”, He mumbles embarrassed. “Sorry”, I apologize. “I’m Jonah”, He introduces himself. “Sofie”, I reply.

“Can I get you some help? You don’t look so great”, Jonah offers. I stare at him confused and offended. “No! That’s not what I meant!“, He quickly exclaims. I raise my eyebrows at him. “You’re beautiful, stunning actually”, Jonah blurts out. There go the butterflies throwing a party in my stomach. “Thanks”, I mumble shyly.

“Can I take you home or maybe to a hospital?“, Jonah asks. “No, I’m fine”, I assure. “You don’t look fine”, Jonah says. “I’m fine, really”, I reassure. When I almost trip over my feet I look at him to see him with a worried expression. “Please at least let me walk you home”, Jonah says taking my hand in his. “It’s the least I can do after knocking you down”, He adds. “Okay”, I sigh rubbing the back of my head with my other hand. I really don’t feel good but I don’t want to make a fool out of myself.

We start to walk hand in hand. At first it’s quiet then Jonah starts asking me about myself. As we’re walking I notice that I don’t live around here. “This isn’t where I live”, I say. Jonah leads me to a car. “There’s no way you’re kidnapping me”, I say pulling my hand away from his. “You probably have a concussion and it’s better if we get you checked at a hospital”, Jonah explains. When I start feeling worse I give in.

The car ride wasn’t very long. Jonah tried to make small talk with me but all I could think of was getting home to my bed. He opened the car door for me and helped me out. I get checked in at the hospital. We wait silently for the doctor to call me in. When he does Jonah follows behind me making sure I won’t fall over.

I sit on the bed. Jonah sits in one of the plastic chairs and gives me a small smile. I return the smile. “I forgot something, sorry”, The doctor apologizes. He looks at Jonah and smiles before stepping out the room.

“I’m really sorry”, Jonah apologizes standing up. He walks over to me. “It’s my fault for not watching where I was going”, I explain. “But you did bump into me”, Jonah says. “More like crashed into you”, I laugh trying to lighten the mood. Jonah chuckles and smiles at me.

“So do you have a boyfriend?“, Jonah asks. I raise my eyebrows at him. I really hope he’s asking this for a good reason. A big part of me is also praying that he doesn’t have a girlfriend. “No”, I answer. Jonah’s smile widens. “Then the least I can do after concussing you is taking you out to dinner”, Jonah says with a hopeful smile. “I’d like that”, I agree smiling back at him.
