Prologue

Imagine being a part of a werewolf family and keeping it a secret from all your friends. It’s hard and even harder if you are a teenager. That’s Natalie Martinez’s life in a few words. She lives in Louisville with her parents and her brother Everything was fine and quiet in this werewolf family until one night.

Natalie was out with her friends, Melissa, Mark, Brooke and Cole. They were all very close with each other but the didn’t know about Natalie’s true identity. They were at their usual spot in McDonald’s when suddenly she heard a scream with her werewolf abilities. She immediately understood it was her mother’s scream. She got up from her table and started to run towards her house. While running she could hear gunshots coming from this direction. Even though she was a werewolf, she already felt tired, but the thought of her family getting hurt kept her going.

She finally arrived at her house to find her door open. She ran inside trying to be as quiet as possible. She walked through the living room where everything seemed normal. She got upstairs and walked into her parents’ room. Nobody was there. She looked under the bed, into the bedsheets, and in the closet but everything seemed the same as when she left the house this afternoon. She stepped out of the room and quietly as always navigated herself to her brother’s room. That’s when she finally found her family. Her parents were lying dead on the floor while her brother was on his bed stabbed with a knife in his stomach. Her eyes filled with tears, she ran to her parents and sat next to them.

Suddenly she heard a small groan coming from her brother. He was still alive she rushed to his side. She ran her hands through his brown hair and weakly smiled at him. He half-opened his eyes and saw his sister. She was now crying. Her cheeks were red and her eyes puffy. Her brother reached her hand and held it.

“The hunters... They did this. They’ll find you. Run Naty. Run!” her brother weakly said.

“I’m not leaving you here to die. You’re coming with me” Natalie said as she tried to pull him off his bed.

“No. It’s too late for me. You go. I’ll be fine here”

“How are you gonna be fine if you’re dying?“She said trying to take with her harder this time.

“I prefer to die that see you getting hurt while trying to save me. Now take my car keys and drive away from this place. Go somewhere that nobody will ever hear from you again.”

“I don’t know where to go! I need your help! Please stay with me!” She said to her brother as more tears run through her face.

Her brother was now holding her sister’s hand tighter than before and weakly said: “Goodbye sister” After that he let her hand go. He had no more strength in his body. He was dead. Natalie was standing beside him revising what he had just told her. She understood the fact that she couldn’t do anything about them anymore so she decided to listen to her brother. She gave one last look to her family’s dead bodies and then turned around and left the room.

She got into the car and drove without knowing where she was going. She was driving away from her hometown like she was trying to drive away from her old life. Her life will never be the same. She will never be the same.

After she got out of Louisville, she stopped at a gas station. She asked the workers there to fill her tank and they did so. While waiting for her car to be ready, she saw a small paper running through the wind. She caught it in her hands and read it carefully. It was a small booklet full of pictures of a place named Beacon Hills. She immediately asked the workers how to get there and then headed this direction. She was ready for a new life. She was ready for Beacon Hills.
