• Chapter One •

“Kim Hye Jin, have you ever kissed before?” asked Hye Jin’s best friend Jeon Jungkook with curiosity.

Jungkook and Hye Jin have been best of friends since they’ve been five years old. It all happened when Jungkook moved into the neighborhood and he ended up attending the same school as her. He was a very timid child and bawled his eyes out on his first day of school. Hye Jin remembers how she had to give him chocolate to make him stop crying. Since then he’s been following her around for the past 13 years.

He waved his hands in front of her face to get her attention. She turned her focus back at Jungkook and looked at him with hesitation because she didn’t know why he’s asking her if she had ever kissed before. The only guy she had followed all her life was Jungkook.

“Mmmhmm, of course I have,” she lied not meeting his eyes.

“Jinjja? What was it like?” He asked leaning his face close to her.

Hye Jin flinched at his closeness as she held her breath because her heart started beating rapidly. She had fallen in love with him a couple of years ago. He had always been there for her through everything she had faced in her life especially the first time she had a crush on a boy. When she confessed to the boy and he rejected her confession, she bawled her eyes out for a week. But Jungkook was there for her every day as he cheered her on. It was then that she started to take notice of Jungkook. She adored how he was caring and loving towards her.

She waved him away with her hands pretending to be annoyed by him, “Why are you asking me? Did you want to try it with me or something?”

He laughed out loud nervously and replied shyly, “Well, I think I’ve met the girl of my dreams...”

“And you want me to teach you in case you decide to kiss her?” Hye Jin finished for him as she rolled her eyes.

“Well, yeah...”

She shook her head in disagreement, “No way, Kookie.”

“Oh come on, please Jinnie,” he begged cutely calling her by the nickname he gave her, “You’re my only female friend.”

Suddenly he cutely pouted at her and then flashed his smile with his rabbit teeth showing as he looked into her eyes. Hye Jin closed her eyes because her heart thumped so hard that if it could jump out of her body, it would have. Hye Jin could never resist Jungkook’s requests when he gives her that bunny smile.

Hye Jin took a deep breath and opened her eyes to tell him no, but instead she found herself staring into his big round eyes. She nervously bit her bottom lip. He started to lean in and then closed his eyes as he tilted his head to side. She closed her eyes as he gently cupped her face to bring her closer to him. Hye Jin could feel her heart beat crazily for him. Finally, his lips met her lips in a sweet kiss that sent tingles through her entire body. She felt like she was floating on cloud nine.

What started as a joke became something Jungkook did not expect. Hye Jin, who’s been his best friend for 13 years, is someone who he cared about deeply. They have been inseparable since we were five years old. They were together so much, that even their classmates sometimes mistaken their friendship as a love relationship. Their classmates had even voted them as most likely to get married to each other. She was someone who he trusted with all his secrets, worries, and dreams. They knew each other so well that most times they could finish each other’s sentences.

When Jungkook asked her if she’s been kissed before, he expected her to be honest but he couldn’t believe she ended up lying to him. If she had kissed someone before, he was positive that he would have been the first person she would tell. So jokingly, when she closed her eyes, he purposely leaned in close because he wanted to see her reaction. But when she opened her eyes, he found himself lost in her eyes. It was the first time he had noticed how beautiful her eyes were.

Jungkook was completely drawn into her as he could feel his heart beating rapidly for her. He couldn’t help it but close his eyes and gently pressed his lips on hers in sweet kiss. He expected her to push him away, but instead, he was surprised that she slightly opened her soft lips and returned his kiss as their tongues explored each other’s mouths. Oddly, he felt something he had never felt before with her. Her kisses sent electric shocks through his entire body and he didn’t want this feeling to ever end.

When they pulled away, neither of them could say a word to one another. Instead, they stared at each other shyly. Suddenly, Hye Jin stood up abruptly from bench they were sitting underneath a tree in the park nearby their neighborhood. At the same time, Jungkook heard Ji Hong Ah call out his name, “Jungkook!”

He turned to look and it was the girl who he was going to confess his feelings to. Jungkook smiled from ear to ear as she started running towards us. She was the girl of his dreams. She was tall, thin, long brown hair with bangs, and when she smiled, she had the cutest eye smile. He thought she was prettiest out of the girls at their school. When Hong Ah reached them, she gave Jungkook a warm hug to greet him. He nervously hugged her back as he looked at Hye Jin. Hye Jin looked like she was hurt watching them. Hong Ah turned her focus to Hye Jin and asked excitedly, “Is this your best friend Hye Jin that you were telling me about?”

Jungkook slowly nodded his head and stuttered, “Y-yes. This is Hye Jin. Hye Jin this Hong Ah, the girl I was telling you about.”

Hye Jin try to hold her tears back as she forced herself to smile at Hong Ah. She waved and softly greeted her, “Hi, nice to meet you Hong Ah. Jungkook was just telling me about you.”

Hong Ah nervously laughed, “Oh, I hope he was only saying good things.”

Hye Jin smile slightly and nodded her head, “Of course.”

Then Hye Jin sadly turned to Jungkook with a forced smile, “I’m going to head home. Have a good time with Hong Ah. Maybe I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Ah, y-yeah,” Jungkook still uneasily stuttered.

She turned back to Hong Ah, “Again, it was really, really good to meet you Hong Ah.”

“Same here, Hye Jin, I hope we can become good friends,” Hong Ah replied happily.

Jungkook watched Hye Jin walk away with her head hanging heavily and his heart felt pained. He had a sudden urge to run over to her and walk her home like he normally did. But Hong Ah grabbed his arms and suggested going to the new ice cream parlor down the street. Jungkook forced himself to looked away from Hye Jin and turned his focus back to Hong Ah.

When Hong Ah showed up, Hye Jin felt like her heart broke and she knew she was losing the guy who she adored for so many years. She was envious when she saw how he looked at Hong Ah with so much joy but when Hye Jin’s eyes met his, he looked at her with full of regrets. Hye Jin thought maybe he felt the same feelings as her when they kissed, but sadly, she was the only one who’s heart beated for him and he still only saw her as his best friend, nothing more.

Hye Jin went home and locked the door to her bedroom as she laid in her bed and bawled her eyes out. Her mom came and knocked on her door to tell her dinner was ready, but she told her mom that she was too busy with her studies and did not want to be disturbed. It was around nine o’clock at night when my cell phone vibrated because of a text message notification.

Did you get home okay? -Jungkook

Hye Jin threw her cellphone on her bed because she didn’t feel answering him, but five minutes later, he texted her again. Hye Jin picked up her cellphone and looked at the message.

Yah! Are you mad at me for kissing you? -Jungkook

“Yes!” She shouted angrily at her cell phone and threw her cellphone back on her bed.

Another five minutes passed and he texted her again. Hye Jin picked up her cellphone and looked at the message.

If you don’t reply back, I’m going to climb through your window right now! -Jungkook

Hye Jin sighed sadly at how clueless he was. She placed her textbooks inside her backpack and turned off her lamp that was on her desk. Knowing Jungkook, she was sure he was standing in the street checking up on her. She texted him back.

I’m tired and heading to bed. -Hye Jin

Okay, see you tomorrow. I have something to tell you. -Jungkook

Hye Jin sighed sadly because she was sure he was going to tell her that Hong Ah agreed to be his girlfriend or that maybe he had the courage to kiss her.

“Kiss,” Hye Jin mumbled as she touched her lips.

Jungkook was the very first guy who stole her kiss.
