Sakura Blossoms

I was working on a new project when you decided to be cliche and throw pebbles at my window. When I asked you why you were doing that, you shrugged and told me that the boys from those romance movies always did that and ended up getting the girl and that although you found it ridiculous you figured it was worth a shot.

You didn’t know, but my heart skipped a beat when you said that, but instead of telling you that, I just rolled my eyes and laughed.

You told me to come down to you and wouldn’t leave until I did. You said you had a surprise for me that you knew I would like.

You didn’t know, but I rushed to get down to you, but instead of telling you that, I pretended to be unwilling.

You grabbed my hand and told me I wouldn’t regret it.

You didn’t know, but I could never regret spending time with you, but instead of telling you that, I just pursed my lips and told you that your surprise ought to be worth it.

You tugged me forward and rushed through the streets. You were so excited, with a big smile on your face and a light in your eyes.

You didn’t know, but I wished I could make you look like that, but instead of telling you that, I told you to slow down.

We finally arrived at your surprise location. It was nighttime when this happened so the stars were clearly sprinkled across the sky and the moon took the place of the sun. You had brought me to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

You excitedly began chattering away about the park and how great the sakura blossoms were, especially now. You kept pointing and shouting like a little kid, “Look here, Emmeline! You see that, Emmy?”

You didn’t know, but I wanted you to never stop talking, but instead of showing it I just chuckled.

When you finally calmed down a bit, you walked me through the park until we reached a riverside spot. A blanket was set underneath some trees. Petals were scattered everywhere, and there was a clear view of the twinkling sky.

You didn’t know, but I actually meant to say that you were the sweetest and most adorable person on the plant and thank you a million times, but instead of telling you that, I laughed and told you this was unnecessary.

We lay down side by side under the sakura blossoms, gazing at the stars, staring at the sky, for hours on end, when you looked my way and I yours, and that’s when you leaned in and I met you halfway, and it was then that I knew that you were the only one for me.

I realized I loved you, that I had loved you all this time.

And instead of hiding it, I said those magical three words without hesitation.

And you said them right back just as quickly.
