Monday Morning

Running.

Running through the woods, speeding past the moss covered trees and plants which are coated in morning dew from the rain, which had just passed over moments ago.

The only sounds to be heard is the soft crunching of feet hitting the leaves which had fallen off the trees and landed on the ground, which is damp and slightly muddy.

Most animals are still sleeping, but there are a few which can be seen.

A herd of deer pass by, trotting away with not a care in the world. Fawn struggle to keep up but are helped by their mothers or other does.

Birds are flying around, going from one branch to another, from one tree to another. Some birds come to the ground to find worms and other critters and go back up to their nest to feed their hatchlings, while some just fly away, not to be seen again.

The sun, which had just started to rise, was a breathtaking display of radiant colours. Bright streaks of red, pink and orange slowly overcame the dark blue and purple of the twilight sky. The sky resembled a prism; all the colours bending perfectly into each other. The sun itself was just peeking out of the horizon, still yet to illuminate each and every crevice of the land. As if on cue, birds started to chirp an explicit background melody which would put a smile on anyone's face.

But as it all starts to slowly fade into black, replacing the harmonious melody from the birds with an obnoxious and annoying beeping sound, and replacing the sunrise along with the trees and the animals with absolute darkness, I realise something.

It was a dream.

Before I open my eyes my dream flashes through my head, reminding me of the wonders that my mind can think up when in it's unconscious state. By the time that I've remembered my dream and thought about how much I wish I could go there, the atrocious beeping monster that people call an alarm clock had been long forgotten, and thankfully, turned itself off.

As I slowly open my eyes, and my bedroom ceiling comes into focus, I think about what day it is and the things that I have to do.

"Okay. So it's Monday. What do I have planned today?"

On mornings I normally go and get a drink at Starbucks before coming back to the apartment and watching some TV, and I will probably just do the same thing today.

It's always the same old routines and honestly, it gets kind of boring. I want a change, but at the same time I don't. Because I know what to do when it comes to old routines. They're engraved into my memory.
