Chapter 1
When I walked into school that day I knew something was going to change. I didn’t know what or if it would be good or bad, but I still went to school. I opened the doors to the main entrance of my high school. I walked through the hallway trying to remember which locker was mine. It took me several tries, but I managed to find my locker. Which was a new record for me. I opened my locker door and gently sat my orange bag on the ground. I slowly sat down on the floor opening my bag. I neatly went through all of my books and notebooks setting everything into my locker from my book bag. I stood up and closed the locker door when I was finished.
When I closed my locker door I decided to stand there and wait for my best friend, Cleo. Cleo and I had been best friends since we were in third grade she was slightly insane, but aren’t we all. I leaned up against my locker door. Waiting for her to arrive. Another thing about Cleo, she was always late. Which by now did not bother me. So, I grabbed my phone and I played some Don’t Hit the Spikes. There was a sudden chill. It made me a little uncomfortable. I paused my game and I looked around trying to see if one of the entrances had been opened and that is when he walked in. I had no clue who he was, but I kind of wanted to know.
He had a presence to him that made you want to know. He had the waviest dark hair I had ever seen. And the color of his hair was like a light brown or dark blonde. And the way it fell on his face. It was just so perfect. Then there was his eyes. They were a sparkly green it seemed to be looking around the whole hallway, looking at everything around him. My eyes on the other hand were staring right at him. They started at his head and worked their way down, but the part that seemed to have the biggest impact on me was his choice in clothing. His shirt was partially unbuttoned. Not like to unbuttoned but enough to see a little bit. His sleeves were rolled up slightly past his elbow just enough to make you realize that guys seem to jump on the hotness scale when they rolled their sleeves up.
When I was done checking him out I was able to realize that he was walking in my direction. I automatically looked down to the ground trying to tell myself that he is just a male. It is not like he is a freakin drop dead gorgeous Calvin Klein model. He walked up to me and stood right in front of me. I looked back up making slight eye contact with him.
“Hi.”
“Hi.” I said still leaning against my locker.
“Do you know where Ms. Patch’s room is?” He asked. He was standing right in front of
me holding his schedule.
“Yes. I am actually heading right there, too.” I answered. So, him and I walked towards
Ms. Patch’s classroom, which was on the other side of the school.
“What is your name?” The mystery guy asked.
“Despina. What is your name?” I answered while still asking him a question.
“I’m Damien.” He introduced.
“Nice to meet you, Damien.” I said with a proper greet.
“Nice to meet you, too, Despina.” He replied with a proper greet.
“Where are you from?” I asked. We were walking through the hallway when I asked. A few
people were staring and we had only traveled a yard away from my locker. “Originally from England, but I moved here from New Orleans.” He answered.
“How old were you when you moved?” I asked him trying to figure out everything I could about him.
“I was four when I moved from England to New Orleans.”
“Why did you move?”
“My parents had died, so we had to move in with our parents best friend, Cat. She has lived
here for fourteen years, but my brother and I just moved back. My brother and I went to a boarding school, but we decided to actually attend a normal school for our last year of high school.” He replied to all of my questions as if he had been answering all of these question for years. He never stuttered or had to stop and think. It was a clean transaction through his whole statement.
“I know Cat.” I answered it wasn’t a lot, but it was the only response I had. “How do you know her?” He asked.
“She is my neighbor, which makes you my neighbor, too.” I indicated. “What do you know about her?” He requested.
“I know she use to have a daughter, but that is really it.” I declaimed walking down the hallway. I came to a sudden stop which seemed to shock him a little bit. I walked into the classroom first. He followed. I sat down at an empty table he sat right across from me. He took his bag off and sat it on the table and so did I. I was rambling through my bag trying to find my phone.
“Where were you?” A familiar voice yelled. I looked up to see my best friend Cleo standing there. She seemed kind of mad. I bit my lip and looked straight down trying to avoid eye contact. She seemed mad. She started walking towards me. Cleo sat right next to me. Cleo started yelling about how I abandoned her I just sat there, and Damien apparently found this amusing, because he started to laugh.
“Who is that?” Cleo asked pointing to Damien. “That is Damien.” I responded.
“Hi Damien. I’m Cleo.” She introduced politely. “Nice to meet you Cleo.” He said.
“Where have you been?” A voice said from the door. We all turned to see who was talking. I could not believe my eyes. There was two of them. When Damien said brothers he could have mentioned twin brothers. I just looked at him like why in the world did you not tell me. He just shrugged. Damien’s twin started walking towards us and he sat right by Damien.
“I’m Derek.” The other twin stated.
“This is Cleo and that is Despina.” Damien introduced Cleo and I and then the teacher walked in with a blonde haired boy and a blonde haired girl. They looked like they could be siblings. They seemed to be new, too.
“Can I have Derek, Damien, Asher, and Aria to come up here so they can tell the class some things about themselves?” Ms. Patch asked. Damien and Derek stood up and walked to the front and the other two stood next to them.
“Hi, my name is Derek. I am eighteen. I am originally from England, but when I was four we moved to New Orleans and a few short months later our parents died and we moved in with our godmother Cat. My brother and I have been in boarding school since until now.” Derek introduced. He walked down and came back to our table.
“Well, everything is the same between us except for the fact that my name is Damien. Another thing my brother forgot to mention was our last name which is Ravenclaw. That is pretty much it.” Damien said trying to fill in the blanks as well as possible. He walked back over to our table and sat down across from me. Asher went next.
“Is there anyway to tell you guys apart?” Cleo asked. The twins sat there and thought for a minute and apparently they found something.
“Yeah, he has a scar on the left side of his chest.” Damien answered.
“Do you have a scar?” I asked Damien.
“Yes, on the right side.” He answered showing us. He showed us his scar and then buttoned
his shirt back up laughing. That is when I realized my face was probably red. Just for the fact I had just seen his bare chest and now my face is burning.
“Your face is red.” Damien said laughing.
“It is, because she likes what she sees.” Cleo announced. I am pretty sure my face was beyond red now and my only reaction was to punch her in the arm. She turned around and gave me an evil look and then turned right back around and smiled.
“So... did you know Derek is really hot.” Cleo randomly muttered. “Thanks?” Derek responded as if he didn’t know how to react. “What about me?” Damien said.
“Sorry, but Derek is still hotter than you.” Cleo pleated.
“Cleo, they are identical twins they look exactly alike.” I told Cleo. She just rolled her eyes.
“Ms. Hallows, Mr. Ravenclaw, Mr. Ravenclaw, and Ms. Taylor please be quiet Aria is trying to tell us about herself.” Ms. Patch said from the front of the class.
“Which one is which?” Derek asked.
“I’m Taylor she is Hallows.” Cleo responded. Ms. Patch just sat there staring at us, so we all paid our full attention to Aria. The rest of the class period we heard all about Aria. This girl could talk about herself for years if you would allow her.
The rest of my morning was really boring, but things started to change at lunch. When I sat down at my table Cleo and my boyfriend, Skyler were already there. I sat by Skyler and Cleo was across from me. I told my boyfriend hi and he said hi back. Then Aria and Asher came up and sat right on the other side of Skyler. Apparently they all became friends. Shortly after they sat down Damien and Derek asked if they could sit with us. I responded with a simple yes. Damien sat next to me and Derek ended up sitting right next to Aria and Cleo. I kind of felt bad for him, but not enough to switch him spots.
“Who are you two?” Skyler asked pointing to the twins.
“These are my friends Damien and Derek. They moved here from New Orleans.” I answered. Damien breathed in heavily when I introduced them. I had a huge feeling he did not like Skyler.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Despina’s boyfriend, Skyler.” Skyler exclaimed with a lot of confidence.
“Nice to meet you.” Damien said with a heavy breath.
“Did you know Aria and Asher are from New Orleans, too.” Skyler asked me. I looked straight at Damien. He leaned in and whispered something into my ear. I didn’t know exactly what he said I was too busy trying to figure why he was so close. All I did here was something about them being bad. I don’t exactly know.
“Yeah. Apparently they all went to school with each other.” I answered, but he wasn’t even paying attention to me anymore. He was talking to Asher. So, I decided to talk to Damien.
“You know I barely heard a word you said.” I confessed while trying to eat some grapes. “Yeah I know.” He said taking a drink of his water.
“Why aren’t you eating?” I asked. I felt like I was prying into his personal business.
“I am not a huge fan of food.” I could not believe my ears. Damien just admitted that he did
not like food.
“So, what are you doing after school?” I asked trying to pry as much as I could. “Nothing.” He answered.
“Do you want to come over?” I asked. He shook his head yes and I went back to eating.
Skyler was so busy forming a guy crush he didn’t even manage to hear me ask a guy over. I just looked down and hurried to finish eating, but there was no point the bell had just rung. SO, I shoved some food into my mouth and hurried to dump my tray. I went back to my table and grabbed my book bag and I decided I should probably head to class.
When I arrived to class, everyone was staring at me weirdly, but then I turned around to see Asher right behind me.
“Are you going to move or just stand there?” Asher aske me. I moved out of his way, but I could not take my eyes off of him. He had light blonde hair and dark brown eyes. It looked weird at first, but then you kind of got use to it. He was at least six foot, Which was still shorter than Damien and Derek. I finally took my eyes off of him when I had to go to my seat. I walked all the way to the other side of the classroom and took a seat. There was something weird about him. I didn’t know what it was, but I did not trust him at all. I’m pretty sure half the reason I came up with consumption was because Damien said so, but the other half just had a feeling. So me being me I sat there and stared at him the whole class period trying to figure out why I did not trust him.
When the bell rang I still had no clue. So I spent three class periods making list trying to figure out what it was and I came up empty handed.
