Waterparks was blasting in Toby’s headphones as he finally finished cutting the weeds from Mr. Kent’s yard. He had been working since ten in the morning and had took a twenty minute break to eat lunch.
He finished at four in the afternoon and was putting the tools away in the shed, the nice feel of air conditioning blowing away the hot reminders of the hours before. Waiting to arrive home and take a nice warm shower, washing away the scent of the activity he had worked so hard on. He was rushing, as most seventeen year olds do, to put away the gardening tools and head home. His house was only half a block from Mr. Kent’s, and he desperately needed to get out of the bloody place. As the last tool was being placed, he grabbed his backpack off the table in the shed, knocking down a dusty, old book from the surface.
The boy turned of his music and looked at peered at the book, now on the floor.
“Bloody hell,” Toby stated, exhausted, as he went to pick up the book. He stared at it for a few moments in awe. The book, the now appearing to be a notebook, looked about a decade old. It had leather backing and the pages were yellowing on the sides. Toby was a huge history nerd and loved anything that looked like it might contain life changing history.
So, like an idiot I might add, he picked up the book and put it in his backpack.
Honk, his Mother’s dark blue SUV had just pulled up. He ran down to the car and buckled up, the AC blowing away his worries. He completely forgot about the book in his backpack. Focusing more on his mom, who looked worn out and tired.
