Chapter 1
October 28, 2015
This has to be a dream, Cora told herself. It can’t be real. She was being drug by a beautiful river. The woods were a lush and green; the water a murky brown. The sound of the water should be refreshing right? Wrong! Well not at this moment, anyways. She was being kidnapped.
“Help me!” She yelled, trying to get out of the death grip from the rope wrapped around her arms and legs.
“No one can hear ya, darlin. We’re miles away from town,” said the man with an southern accent, dragging her by her arms.
The man was short, stout, with black greasy hair, and a beard by the looks of it.
“Who are you?” She demanded. She was on the brim of tears from the pain in her arms.
“Ya know who I am,” the man said while turning around with something grey in his hand.
He rose the grey thing in his hand. He was about to bash her head in, but before he could, a loud sound boomed through the woods.
BEEP! BEEP!
Cora awoke and jumped in her bed; which made her covers fall on the floor.
Her alarm clock was ringing for her to get up for school. She turned off her alarm clock, went to her built-in closet, picked out a pair of clothes, and got into the shower.
Why was she dreaming of being kidnapped?
What type of pills were her doctors giving her to dream such dreams like this? (Which she knows the pills are for her anxiety.)
Cora closed her eyes and started washing her hair, while trying to forget the horrid dream. She turned off the faucet, which she was relived to be in the bathroom still; not her horrid dream.
Her little brother, Landen, (a sixteen year old teen that has blonde hair he gets from his mother and in tenth grade) yelled, “Hurry up!” While knocking his heart out on the door.
“Wait a minute!” She put on her clothes, brushed and flossed her teeth, and put on black mascara and light pink butter lip gloss.
She opened the door; which her brother hurriedly walked in and shut the door. She passed family portraits on the wall that had Landen, her mother, her dad, and her in them.
She looked at the picture beside it. It was a picture of a twelve year old her. Her long dishwater blonde hair put up in a tight ponytail, eyes a sparkling green (which she got from her grandmother).
Cora looked down the steps. They were a dark brown colored wood; newly polished by the personal maid too. She went down the stairs, and into the kitchen for her daily pill and breakfast.
“Good morning, sweety! How are you feeling?” Her mother, Sandy, asks.
“Morning, I’m doing fine.”
She studied the cereal in the cabinet, Cinnamon Toast Crunch; Boo Berry; or Krave. The one she liked the most was Krave, but Boo Berry will be gone soon, seeing that Halloween was coming close. Only two days away, and three days until you hear Christmas songs on the radio.
Cora took Krave out of the cabinet and poured some into her bowl.
“What kind of cereal did you get today?” Said her Dad, Tommy, while putting orange juice and a pill beside her bowl of cereal.
“The usual.”
“Ahh, Krave.” Her Dad said while looking at his daily newspaper to find the latest sports things.
Cora ate some of her cereal, put the pill in her mouth, and drank some orange juice to go with the pill. She got up from the kitchen chair, got her homework, and shoved it all neatly in her book bag. She put one strap on her shoulder and opened the front door.
Before she left for the bus; she said, “See you Mom and Dad!”
“See you later, we love you,” Her Dad yells back making her smile while closing the front door.
“Hey, wait up sis!” Landon yelled from the front porch.
Cora continued walking, stopping only when she got to the bus stop. She smirked knowing her sixteen year old brother would be all out of breath trying to catch up to her.
“Hey, Cora, you were supposed to call me last night with costume ideas.” Cora’s friend, Katie, says with a smile showing her bright white teeth.”
Katie is a seventeen year old with tan skin, aqua blue eyes, and black hair. She had on black leggings with a fall like shirt.
“Oh yeah, sorry about that. I went to bed early because I had a pounding headache.” Cora smiles while telling white lie.
“Yeah okay, that’s why you could text Emric, but not your own pal.” Katie says while rolling her eyes and smiling.
“Fine, Fine you caught me,” Cora says while laughing with Katie.
Landen finally catches up in time for the bus, which is literally picking Katie and Cora up when he got there; which made Katie and Cora laugh even harder.
