Chapter 1
Under the cover of dark
The squad moves into position,
Go
Like a viper
Striking at it’s prey,
Silently
Moving in to secure the premises,
Watching the movements of the enemy
Like hawks watching their prey.
A signal is all it takes
To send the soldiers running,
Taking all their enemies down.
Victory!
The soldiers come home to their families,
Relieved
Given time to rest and visit
Called heroes of our country
Being looked at like some incredible higher beings.
Dreams
Trust, betrayal, war, torture, death, life
All coming back to haunt the soldiers when they sleep
Seeing the faces of people whom they let die,
Withering in the pain of their inevitable death
Cursing the name of the comrade who ran
Strength
Soldiers putting aside their feelings
Putting on the mask of the strong and brave
Letting people look at them like they’re perfect beings that can do anything
Lying for so long that they believe it themselves,
Until it becomes as true as life
