Prologue
JEON JUNGKOOK FELT HIS stomach growl feverishly with thirst. The parch in his throat had slowly ebbed its way throughout the suspended veins of his bloodstream and ached his taut muscles. His psychotic need for fresh blood hammered through the walls of his mortal sanity as his human charade started to dissolve.
Scarlett proceeded to take a single step back, her chocolate frame trembling in fear for the monster that stood merely inches for her proximity. She watched in disbelief as Jungkook’s wavy tendrils had shifted from his previous coffee brown to a shade of onyx black. His eyes, which were once a warm amber were now sporting an unnatural crimson red luminance.
An eerie grin flourished on Jungkook’s ivory lips as he deeply inhaled the wonderful scent of adrenaline that seeped out of Scarlett’s pounding chest. It made him giddy with demonic joy that he possessed such power to secrete such a reaction from both his mortal and immortal peers. A humorless chuckle escaped from his blood deprived lips at the mere thought of the hundreds of useless souls that had cowered down on their knees for his nonexistent mercy.
“J-Jungkook-ssi? Is that really y-you?′ Scarlett stuttered, a sudden thick cloud of despair formed in her throat.
Saliva collected in Jungkook’s mouth as the alluring scent of fear intensified from the older woman’s frame, “Yes, Noona, this the real me. Are you scared of my true form?”
Scarlett simply blinked her ebony eyes once, then twice, and swallowed the lump that threatened to suffocate her; “No. No, I am not! You are still the innocent baby bunny boy I fell in love with!”
“That is where you are wrong, my dearest Noona. I am not a baby, in fact, I am centuries older than you. And what in Hell’s name gave you the impression that I am innocent?” Jungkook spat, his torturous thirst increasing by the second.
Scarlett glared fiercely at her former dongsaeng despite the unshed tears that glazed her dark eyes, “You know what, Jungkookie? All of that is completely irrelevant. My point is that I know in my heart that you care about me just as much as I care for you. I love you, Kookie, and you love me too no matter whatever nasty things you claim to believe.”
Jungkook snarled, his elongated canines glinted regardless of the pitch black darkness that surrounded them; “You have some nerve to claim that you know me, Scarlett. And just for your information, it’s not your company I crave but the very blood running through your veins. Get that through your goddamn thick skull.”
A quick flicker of pain crossed Scarlett Belle’s expression and Jeon Jungkook couldn’t help but smile in satisfaction. However, his happiness was only short-lived before a sudden look of determination morphed itself onto Scarlett’s breathtaking face.
After a courageous step forward, Scarlett lifted her chin and stared into Jungkook’s soulless eyes, “Maybe you’re right, Jungkook. You do appear to be an inhumane monster who cares about no other but himself. But I can promise you that I will not give up on you until my very last breath.”
Jungkook cocked a perfect eyebrow, “Then perhaps I shall be the one who takes that breath away-”
Before the wicked brute could finish his threatening sentence, Scarlett Belle had moved with blinding speed and pressed her lips to his.
