You Lost Now You're Mine

Summary

"Wanna play a game?" When a man steps into Jimin's office and challenges him to a game of chess, Jimin takes on the offer or else risks losing his job. Everything had happened so suddenly, and Jimin was more than a little disoriented. He honestly didn’t understand how things had turned out this way. All he recalled was the black haired male walking into his office, with two bodyguards on either side of him, asking in a sickly sweet voice, “wanna play a game?” while placing a chess board onto the table.

Chapter 1

“You lost, now you are mine” The black haired male smirked, fully satisfied with the results. On the other hand, the orange haired male was trembling in fear and disbelief. Jimin couldn’t believe what was happening, he was unsure of what the black haired male even meant. ‘Now you are mine’ what did that even mean? He didn’t even know the smirking male’s name, all he knew about the other male was that he had the power to ruin Jimin’s life.

Jimin had looked up from his writing, glancing at the chessboard, and then blinking at the tall man and the two intimidating bodyguards who’d just entered his office. He’d never seen them before in his life, and so he could not understand what they were doing there. You see, Jimin was a world renowned scientist/psychologist. However he preferred doing research to actually seeing patients, and so he was most often cooped up in his lab avoiding all social interactions as much as possible. He’d recently finished his last project and was now working on his proposal for a new one which he’d be presenting in less than a week’s time to the board of directors for revision and funding. The week before his proposal is due is the week he avoids all human interaction. Everyone knows that he hates being disturbed and so all his colleagues leave him alone, and anyone who wanted to meet with him would have to schedule an appointment for a later time. No one ever just barged into his office, and so the fact that three men were standing in front of his desk without any prior warning was quite surprising to Jimin. He seriously wondered why they were here and why the black haired one had asked him to play a game of chess with him. It was all rather weird.

“Uh...no?” Jimin finally answered blissfully unaware of what was to come. The male in front of him stared at him pointedly before speaking. “Look, you have two choices. Either you play this game with me and if I win, I own you; but if you win I will fund your new research, whatever it is and whatever the cost from now onwards for as long as you work here…” the male paused to see if Jimin had anything to say to that. Jimin merely shook his head at the proposition before speaking rather calmly despite the ridiculousness he felt about the situation. “No, I don’t like that deal, I’d rather not take my chances.” he stated before going back to his writing and hoping the man would just leave. The man didn’t leave instead he sighed before speaking once more.

“Hey, I said you only had two choices. The other is I fire you right here, right now, and make sure you never get a job at any other research institution.” The male finished with a frown upon his bunny like features. Jimin stopped writing and looked up at the man in front of him with wide eyes. “Wha-...why ar-...you...can’t possibly... do that?” Jimin stuttered out. The frowning male suddenly smirked at Jimin, and placed his arms across his chest before replying with a sly tone, “Of course I can, darling. I own this place and many other firms around the world. I can easily tarnish your carefully built reputation in a matter of seconds, making you unable to work in this field ever again...so what’s it gonna be? Will you play now?” the male asked, the smirk not leaving his face. Jimin was baffled by this. What was going on? Why was this man threatening him? Who was he anyway? Jimin looked away from the man and towards the chess board before asking in a slightly shaky voice, “wh..who are you?” He looked back up at the black haired male with a frown not liking this tall male.

“If you don’t already know, then you don’t need to know now. Make your decision already, I’ll answer your questions after the game.” The male said and then shooed his bodyguards out the door and took a seat in front of the desk. Jimin watched the bodyguards leave before focusing his attention back onto the male in front of him.

“How...do I know what you said is even true then?” Jimin dared to ask, starting to wonder if the man was possibly bluffing.

“Oh darling, do you really want to take that chance? Do you really think I can’t do what I’ve promised?” The male said with a sly smile plastered to his face as he set up the board. Jimin knew he wouldn’t take the chance, and he also didn’t think the male was lying or making empty threats. But he still didn’t know why or who the male was, which bothered him.

“So ready to play?” The male asked looking at Jimin with an unreadable expression. Jimin swallowed and nodded his head, seeing that he didn’t really have much of a choice. At least he felt like he had a fair chance at winning since he was rather good at chess.

“Ok then, your move first.” The male said giving Jimin a dazzling smile. Jimin nodded again and then moved a pawn forward to begin the game. An hour later the game ended with him being checkmated. So much for being good at chess.

Jimin was in a dazed state over the results, trying to figure out what would happen now.

“So darling now that I’ve won, let’s discuss what happens next. First of all, like I said, I now own you, so you have to listen to everything I say without complaint. I will have a contract drawn up for us so you understand what will happen now, but I want to establish some things first. So let’s begin with you’re moving in with me-”

“What?!” Jimin cut in finally snapping out of his dazed state. The male in front of him scowled not liking being interrupted.

“What do you mean ‘what’?” He asked the scowl not leaving his face.

“I..I can’t...just m-mo-move in...with y-you..l-li-like that! I..I don’t even know you!” Jimin stuttered looking at the black haired male with a glare, deciding that yes, he really didn’t like the tall male.

“Jungkook. Jeon Jungkook. That’s who I am.” The male answered staring straight into Jimin’s eyes.

“Je..jeon..?” Jimin finally began to realize who he was. He was the son of the wealthiest man in the nation. His company was worth billions, and they invested a lot in research. Many of Jimin’s own research had been funded by them. In fact the research institute he was currently in and working for was owned by them. He’d heard about the only son who was said to be taking over the company very soon. So this must be that son...but that still didn’t explain much.

“Yes, I’m the son of the billionaire who owns this company that you are working for. I’m actually, technically, your new boss...but you aren’t going to be working here for a while so y-”

“You’re firing me? But I played your stupid game!” Jimin cried out, feeling his eyes water. He couldn’t deal with what was happening, he loved his work so much, doing research was his life. Sure it could be difficult at times, but he absolutely loved it, he loved making discoveries and then writing about it and getting published. He loved that what he discovered eventually helped a ton of people. He just really loved doing what he did, and he couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

“Please don’t fire me! Anything but that!” he pleaded to Jungkook looking up at him with teary eyes. Said male just sighed running a hand over his face before glaring at Jimin.

“Would you please stop interrupting me? Let me explain things. I’m not firing you for god’s sake, so don’t cry!” He said exasperated

“You-you’re n-not?” Jimin asked trying to keep himself from crying.

“No! I have another job for you that I need you to focus on more for a while, that’s all.”

“Ano-another job?” Jimin asked looking confused as he dabbed at his still teary eyes.

“Yes.” he sighed before continuing, “I’ve done my homework, and I’ve learned you’re one of the best psychologists around. I’ve already tried all the other top psychologists, and so now you’re kinda my last hope. I want you to help my mom. She was in an accident a few years ago, but she’s all healed up, at least physically. No one really knows what’s wrong with her or how to help her. All I really, personally, know is the problem is mental. My mom lives with me and I want you to help her and to make sure you’re available at all times for her, that’s why I want you to live with me.” Jungkook finishes explaining looking at Jimin with hopeful eyes. Jimin absorbed this new information trying to decipher through everything that was happening.

“Uh...I really...don’t like working with people...I don’t..even know if I could help...seeing as others before me have failed...I don’t think I could succeed.” Jimin said looking away from Jungkook.

“I want you to at least try.” Jungkook said with a firm voice.

“I...ok...but...why did you have to do all this just to ask for some help?” Jimin asked still rather confused.

“Because I know your reputation. You avoid people and don’t take on many patients. I had to threaten you in order to get you to do what I want.” Jungkook said looking down.

“But...why the game? Why did you claim you ‘own me’? What do you even mean by that? You could have just told me to help your mom or you’d fire me?” Jimin asked still not fully comprehending.

“That game was to give you a chance to not have to do this. If I’d lost I’d simply have requested your help, and you’d be free to turn me down. But since I won, I do own you since that was the condition I set forth if you lost. What I mean by that is simply you have to listen to mostly whatever I say, and I’m saying I want you to try and help my mom.” Jungkook answered looking Jimin straight in the eyes.

“But that’s such a roundabout way of doing things…” Jimin said softly and mostly to himself.

“There were other reasons...but I’m not telling you what they are, you can figure them out on your own later.” Jungkook mumbled before glancing at his wristwatch. “Oh, I have to go now, but before I do, the other things you need to know are these. Your stuff will be moved to my place by the end of the day, I’ve already sent someone to deal with your landlord, the lease and whatnot, and so at the end of today I’ll pick you up and take you home. Another thing once today is over you’re not coming back here for a while so if you wanna say goodbye to any of your colleagues, today is the only day you have. And don’t tell anyone about this arrangement. Anyway I’ll see you later.” Jungkook waved at him and then left.

Jimin slumped down in his seat still processing everything. He didn’t really get it, all of it was weird, Jungkook was weird. Jimin sat up and sighed then scrapped the paper in which he had written his proposal, seeing as that wasn’t going to happen any time soon. He found that Jungkook had left the chessboard, the pieces still on it. The lone white king and pawn was surrounded by a black queen, king, and bishop, that’s how he’d been taken down. Jimin tore his gaze away from the chessboard and towards his laptop not really knowing what he should do now. He decided to read some novels he’d been meaning to catch up on until Jungkook came to pick him up. As he read he couldn’t help but wonder why Jungkook had done what he’d done, and why he felt like there was more to this then just seeing if he could help Jungkook’s mother.
