Part 01
Jimin didn’t want to get his hopes up as he saw the note perched carefully against his bedside lamp. His name was scrawled haphazardly in messy writing across the front of the folded peach-colored paper. This wasn’t the first note he had received; in fact, it was the third. Jimin wanted to believe he knew who was leaving them for him. After all, there were only six people it could be. But Jimin had never been very good at this sort of thing - mysteries, as it were.
With a slightly shaking hand and his toothbrush still poking out of his mouth, Jimin reached down and snatched the note before Hoseok-hyung could notice it and question its contents. Jimin gingerly placed the note in the back pocket of his jeans, returning to the bathroom to finish brushing his teeth. Though his heart was filled with curiosity, Jimin had a ritual for reading the mysterious notes. Alone, away from the rest of his dorm-mates.
After finishing his daily morning routine, Jimin ventured out into the kitchen, where the smell of breakfast made his stomach grumble. Jungkook heard the sound and smiled at Jimin from his place at the table. The empty seat beside the maknae was calling for Jimin to fill it, along with his empty belly, but Jimin wasn’t in the mood for breakfast quite yet. With the unread note weighing heavily in his back pocket, Jimin shrugged off his roommates and headed out the back door.
The back yard wasn’t particularly big, but it was big enough. A large willow tree covered the majority of the yard in a cooling cloud of shade. There was a large table where they liked to have their meals on sunny, yet breezy, days like today. Jimin kept his focus on the task at hand: getting to read the letter. He glanced behind him, making sure none of his friends had grown curious of him yet, and took his place behind the willow tree, out of sight of the house. There was a hole in the trunk, from which Jimin pulled a small jar. Inside were the previous two notes he had received over the past few days, each on a different colored paper.
Jimin pushed the curiosity down once again, pulling the notes from the jar. The first one he had received was on purple paper, the color of lilacs in bloom. The second was on yellow paper, which automatically made him think of Jungkook. Yellow was the maknae’s favorite color.
Unfolding the purple note, Jimin let his eyes read over the two scrawled words for the hundredth time. ❝I wish...❞ it said. Jimin had stared at those two words for hours, trying to decipher their meaning. Until he had gotten the next note two days later, this one written on the yellow paper. He held it up now beside the purple one. ❝See me...❞ that one read. Jimin had immediately tried to put two and two together, figuring the notes had to connect somehow. But any way that he read them, they still made no sense to him.
Now, with a deep breath, Jimin pulled the peach note from his back pocket and stared at it. He could feel his heartbeat quicken as he held the thin paper between two fingers. Part of him had wondered if this was all some elaborate prank his hyungs were playing on him, but he knew that wasn’t the case. His friends loved to mess with him, but this was something else. They wouldn’t pull anything like this.
Jimin slowly unfolded the peach-colored paper and read the two words. ❝The way...❞ it read. Jimin lined the three notes up, already knowing they still made no sense.
I wish...
See me...
The way...
Jimin ground his teeth and leaned his head back against the tree in frustration. What was this? When would he finally understand it? And which of his friends were leaving these notes for him? Jimin was dying to know, but unless he wanted to burst into the dorm and confront everyone, the only thing he could do now was wait...
