Prologue
The wind against my skin always made feel wild and free. It was oddly comforting, ever since I was in the hospital three months ago I felt different, like I was a new person.
My white and black converse thudding against the black pavement as my sleek black hair flows in the humid Georgia air. It was 92 degrees here in Caraiva, Georgia. Famously known for Cavia oranges.
Walking through my yard of green grass and rose bushes I checked my watch, it read 10:58. Thirty- two minutes till my daily trip to the hospital, twenty-eight minutes late home.
I opened the door and came face to face with my five foot six mother. “ Earlier than usual today I’m impressed.” She said with a smile on her lips. “Do you always wait by the door to scare your poor daughter to death?” I shot back with a grin on my face.
”What kind of mother would I be if I didn’t?” She said rolling her eyes at me. “ Oh I don’t know may-“ she cut me off “ Yeah, Yeah now go.” She shooed pushing me towards the door.
I walked into Layla’s white-machine filled hospital room. We met four years ago when I first became a patient. Layla has cancer, she was first diagnosed with cancer when she was six, sad really.
“Only you can pull off sweaty and sexy.” She said chuckling, I grinned.
Hearing the sound of sirens filling the room I looked to the TV. “Is this on every channel?” She chuckled. “Yeah, saying that the Cannes would wreck havoc if they were to start school here with the humans.” She rolled her eyes annoyed. Layla has been obsessed with them ever since they relocated here in Georgia.
Cannes are basically lycanthropes. Or as some say Werewolves. No we are not the superior, they are, the Cannes.
