Untitled chapter
On a cold February night at a bowling alley, Jeff and his friends were talking about certain topics of interest. Jeff began to speak about a dream. Jeff said, “I had this weird dream last night. I received a love letter from an anonymous girl at school on a Monday. This letter was actually an invitation to dinner at a local restaurant on the Saturday before Valentine ’s Day. During that entire week of school, I was trying to figure out who wrote the letter. That Saturday, when I finally met her, the girl was no other than Jess. After the meeting between us at the restaurant, the dream ended.”
Jack interrogated Jeff, “What do you mean it ended there? There was no romantic dinner. There was no sex between you.”
Jeff replied, “I did not understand why it just ended. I figured that it was a foreshadowing for my future.”
Jenn said, “This dream can be your future. I noticed the tone of your voice changed when you said the girl’s name. What was your reason for changing your voice when you said her name?”
Jeff answered,” The reason why my voice changed is that Jess and I do not get along. For her, to write that letter to me, she probably would do it as a joke so that she had something to talk about with her friends.”
Jenn retorted back,” I disagree with your interpretation of her action because she might have a secret crush on you and she probably did not want her friends to find out.”
Jeff replied back, “It’s a possibility because like me, you assumed that she wrote the letter. This letter could be blind date invitation by another person who wanted us together.”
That night, when he went to sleep, he dreamed the same dream. The next morning, Jeff recorded this entry in his English journal.
February 7, 1993
Last night, I dreamed the same dream. I am beginning to wonder why I am dreaming this dream. Is it my destiny to meet her? Are we predestined to marry? Is it possible for her to love me? Why does this dream end here and not until we make love? Why can’t I understand this dream?
After closing his journal, Jeff said, “I don’t know if this dream is my future or a fantasy. This week will tell me the truth behind the dream.”
