Chapter 1
It is cool spring day in Charleston, South Carolina. Beth Myers is reading a magazine in Coffee World drinking coffee. She is waiting for a friend to arrive. She is reading a magazine article telling about the current financial crisis in the world, especially in the United States. Peter Teltleson arrives and says, “Hello, Beth. How long have you waited for me?”
She responds,” Twenty minutes. “ She put her magazine down and drinks some of her drink. She asks him, “Why do you call me to meet you here? We couldn’t meet at your office.” Beth knows the answers but still asks to see if Peter is honest with her. Peter is quiet for little bit and walks away. He walks up to the counter for some coffee. Beth is angry at Peter for not answering her. She repeated her question, “My dear Peter, why have you called me here?”
With grin on his face, Peter responds, “Patient, my dear. Can’t you share time with an old friend?” Peter sips his coffee with smug grin on his face. Beth gets angry with Peter and leaves the table. Peter says, “Won’t you come back to table to sit down? You are making a scene.” Seconds later, Beth takes her cell phone out and makes a call to a friend. She walks away while the phone connects her call.
Once the call is connected, she says to her friends, “He finally came. Now he won’t tell me what he wants. What should I do?” She remains silent and nods her head while listening to the other person. She say, “Okay, bye. I see you soon.” She puts her cell phone away and looks at Peter. He is getting impatient. She knows she has him where she wants him. She walks by him and out the door saying, “Sorry, I have another appointment to meet. Call me when you are ready to talk?” She walks down the street and waits for him to call her back. Back in the coffee shop, Peter slams his fists on the table. He finishes his coffee and leaves the shop. Peter heads back to his office. After watching Peter leaving the coffee shop, Beth makes another call. She says, “He didn’t fall for it. He is so arrogant. What should I do now?” The caller says something. She responds to caller, “You want to do what? No way, I’m not doing that.” Caller says something again but this time, she remains silent. Later, she laughs and says, “I can do that.” She hangs the cell phone up.
