Prologue
Lieutenant Keon Eduard Carter entered the large bedroom he was pleased to share with his new wife, and he smiled when he saw the beautiful young woman surrounded by her lady’s maids. He leaned against the doorpost when he realized no one even heard him enter, and he enjoyed watching the skilled hands of the servants taking the layers and layers of satin and silk off his wife. He went to them when one of the servants noticed him and he kissed his wife’s bare neck, the surprise she showed making him smile. “You are so soft, Elizabeth Amelia Carter.”
“And you know I distaste my Christian name. I prefer to go by the name of Amy.” The young woman said and she turned to her husband to continue scolding him, but found herself silenced by his mouth resting on hers. “You are a rascal like no other.”
“I have been out on horseback all day, shooting a rifle and patrolling the streets of New York, and I get called a rascal by my wife, when all I want is some fun.” Keon said.
“You are not to have fun until you promise to never call me Elizabeth again. At least not when talking to me directly.” Amy said.
“I will have to think on that one.” Keon said and he finished where the servants left off.
“Keon.” Amy said in surprise.
Keon smiled and he kissed her hungrily and before long had her preoccupied in every possible way, even going as far as to have a servant bring them supper while the lady’s maids readied a very nice hot bath for them, which they lazed in after supper. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Amy said softly and she snuggled her head into his neck.
Keon smiled and he looked out of the small window that overlooked the city. “One day we will be out of the city.”
“I love the city.” Amy said.
“I know.” Keon said and he kissed her head before he enjoyed the rest of the evening with her at a very slow and relaxed pace.
