First Day
A sharp piercing ring woke me up at 9:00 on the dot when I had finally had the strength to get up I took a nice relaxing shower. After I was finished I did all of my morning necessities; I looked at the time and realized I was going to be late on my first last day back to school. This was my senior year and my birthday was coming up in a month, I’ll be turning eighteen years old. Trying to hurry up I threw on a blue blouse with white ripped skinny jeans and my blue jimmy choo’s heels. Then I put on some silver-diamond encrusted hoop earrings, a little mascara, and my signature ruby red lipstick; when I was finished getting ready I admired myself in the mirror, “humph simple but cute,” I said to myself. After I was done I went downstairs to have breakfast, which almost always ends up with me bickering with my little sister Gabrielle about who’s hotter, Zac Efron or Channing Tatum. “Come on Mila everyone knows Zac is the hottest,” Gabrielle said while rolling her eyes.
“You little brat I hope your eyes get stuck like that,” I said while laughing.
“ Hey now, Mila apologize to your sister,” my mother Marissa told me; I turned to look at my sister and mumbled a half-sorry apology. My mom has always been the only one to stop me and my sister from arguing; after my dad left it’s been hard on our family. I missed my dad a lot, we all did but he put my mom through a lot of pain emotionally and physically; my mom is a strong woman and she doesn’t need a man to make her happy. Unlike my sister who is only 10, she’s so sensitive; which make her a very open and emotional kid the littlest things could maker her cry. As I gazed at my family I started to consider what time it was and how late I was going to be if I didn’t leave right now, so I gathered all of my things and jogged out to my cherry colored 2016 Porsche Boxster convertible. I was off and on my way to S.B.A, or A.K.A Sydney Bay Academy; I’ve been going to S.B.A for eleven years now this year is my last and final year as a senior here in Australia. 10 minutes later I was pulling up to the academy and only had a minimum of five minutes to make it to class before the late bell rung. As I was running to first period I almost slipped in a puddle but before I could fall, my best friend Alexandria Runt or as she prefers to be called Alex catches me. Hey Chica,” Alex said smiling “come on or we’re going to be late.” I hugged her and thanked her immensely for saving me from embarrassment, as we walked I was thinking back on our friendship. Alex and I have been together our whole entire lives and we are both seventeen, but she’s older than me by 7 minutes which she thinks is a huge advantage over me but it’s really not. Alex and I are what you call alike and different at the same time because Alex is mixed with Spanish and Australian with long mahogany colored hair and icy blue eyes; while I’m mixed with African American and Italian with long black hair and vibrant green eyes. I am actually a very clumsy person while Alex has the gracefulness of a ballerina, see total opposites but we do everything together like yin and yang because we’re both cheerleaders; me being head captain and Alex being my co-captain. We are both track stars and we do volunteering at Sydney Bay elementary, I don’t know how I do all of this when I basically trip over thin air daily but somehow I manage. Time to meet our teacher I hope she isn’t like Mr.Hiken from last year he was an absolute nightmare.
As we were walking down the hallway to first period, the late bell rung right before we walked into the classroom.
“Sorry we’re late,” me and Alex said in unison while snickering quietly
“Well dear that’s quite alright I’m Mrs. Canter, please have your seats,” Mrs. Canter said while checking attendance. I and Alex looked at each other in shock and headed to the last two open seats directly beside each other.
Alex quietly whispered to me “oh wow, Mila she’s way better than Mr. Hiken,” I nodded my head in agreeance. About 5 minutes after checking attendance Mrs. Canter started by letting the class do introductions, everyone has to say their name and 2-3 hobbies that they enjoy doing.
Mrs. Canter started us off “Good Morning class my name is Judith Canters and my hobbies include knitting and gardening.” We all clapped and so on the rest of class went; One by one the class stood and did introductions, finally after about 25 minutes it was down to me and Alex. Alex wanted to go before me so I let her,
“Hiya everyone my name is Alexandria Runt, but my friends call me Alex and my hobbies include volunteering, co-captaining for cheer, and track/cross-country,” Alex said finishing.
When she finished she gave a little courtesy and waved for me to stand up, “Ciao a tutti which means hi to everyone in Italian, my name is Milana Valentini but everyone just calls me Mila and my hobbies include volunteering, being captain of the cheerleaders, track/cross-country, and singing” I said smiling. I sat back down
Alex leaned into me “why haven’t you told me you sing, we’ve been best friends for 17 years and I’ve never heard you sing,” said Alex looking disappointed. Before I could explain Mrs. Canter started talking,
“I hope we have a great year and keep getting to know each other better,” she said smiling and right then the bell rung signaling second period which I, unfortunately, didn’t have with Alex. As I was leaving class Alex zoomed by me, but before I could go after her I realized late bell goes off in 5 minutes and my class is all the way across the building,
“Alex I’ll explain at lunch,” I yelled after her while watching her fast walk to her next class so that I couldn’t catch up to her. My next class was boring as always, when isn’t world history boring. I mean who wants to learn about dead people anyways, after that class, I headed to lunch to find Alex.
“Hey Mila!,” called David as he walked in my direction,
“Sorry Dave can’t really talk right now, but I’ll text you,” I called out while jogging to lunch. I walked out to my car and found Alex waiting to go get lunch, so at least her waiting for me gives me hope that our friendship isn’t completely hopeless now “Alex I’m so sorry” I said with my head down “I’ll understand if you never talk to me again,” I wiped my eyes feeling the coolness of tears on my face. In my head I was thinking, please don’t give up on our friendship, with my head down I didn’t see Alex coming towards me…
“Please don’t cry Mila, we’re still best friends,” Alex said while hugging me with tears in her eyes. I smiled and we both burst out laughing at how emotional this got, and it’s only the first day.
