I Won't Die
I miss him,
the way he loved, the way he laughed, the way he lived.
I miss our hikes through the forest, rain or shine,
and the apple we shared every time.
I miss the fishing,
and the false fury when I got the first bite.
But I saw the love and pride in his eye’s,
when the student surpassed the master.
I miss him,
every time I eat an apple, or go hiking, or fishing.
But I do it anyway ’cause it reminds me,
of how he loved, laughed and lived.
I do it ’cause I loved him,
in all his stubborn glory.
He said “I won’t die”,
and he hasn’t ’cause I remember.
