Look What You Made Me Do

Sierra Brooks

I glared morbidly around the dim bar, trailing a finger lazily around the glass I held in my hand, the clear liquid untouched. The music was loud and ear splitting and I was pissed that this was how the most important day of my life was being spent.

All these bloody motherfuckers. I thought, my eyes half lidded. Getting shit ass drunk on my money. ha e my turmoil through the air. This is all your fault. You are the one who dragged me here and ruined my day.

Not that Samara would have noticed. She was shit drunk and had so far crossed the line that the line was just a dot to her.

“So, correct me if I’m wrong...” a voice said behind me “..but I’m guessing it was not your idea to invite the entire school to your party. No offence, but you are the biggest introvert I’ve seen.”

“Fuck you, Andrew.” I grumble

“Don’t worry babe, I do” my other best friend winked at me, his green eyes sparkling with mirth.

“You’re a loser” Don’t judge okay? It’s pretty hard to come up with a good retort when your so miserable.

“Okay, so jokes aside, when exactly did you develop an interest for the football team?” he inquired and we both stared silently at a group of giggling boys crowded around a uncomfortable looking tanned, black haired man and asking him if they could borrow his magic carpet.

“I didn’t. Sam decided she wanted something a little more fun” I say

Andrew and I shared a look at the blonde sprawled on the floor, who was now mumbling something about finding Dory.

“So what was your plan if not this?” Andrew inquired politely.

I narrowed my eyes, feeling a little defensive ” I didn’t have like anything planned and stuff....maybe some Netflix. And some ice cream.“′

" What a thrilling way to spend your seventeenth birthday! Gosh, I’m almost sad Sam ruined it.”

“Yeah, me too.” I say, not catching on the sarcasm.

A nasal sigh issued from him”Si, did you ever wonder maybe Sam did this to help you?Like maybe your mate, the one you find when you turn seventeen, might be somewhere inside this crowd?”

I blinked a little forcefully and tried not to look guilty. My wolf Amber has been restless ever since we entered the bar and I knew that he was in here. But I was scared. I didn’t want to trade over my freedom just yet.

Besides, Andrew would get ridiculously excited over anything concerning my wolf as he was a human.

“I guess.” I say nonchalantly and pull out my phone to avoid any more conversation on the subject. I click open my inbox and stare a little pathetically at the meager amount of messages staring back at me. Gods, you just knew you were a loser when the only messages you had were from Pizza Hut.

Hmm...about 50% off on a large pizza. And free coke.

“Andrew, ” I start, trying to look flustered and a little sick “I think I’ve drank just a tad too much...”

“You haven’t touched your tequila.” he pointed out lazily.

“...and I think it would be best if I just went home now. Have an early night.”

“I’m sorry but I’m not falling for that shit again, okay?” he said, giving me a demure smile “I really don’t want to drive around town to different fast food joints to find you when Sam wakes up.”

“You don’t have to do everything Sam says, you know?” I say dejectedly, taking a tiny sip of the alcohol in front of me.

“Are you kidding me?” Andrew’s eyes went wide in panic “She would probably stab me in the eye with her heels!”

“What..? That’s completely....true. Yeah, I remember! ” I brighten”She took off her heels and punched you in the face with it! And you had to walk around with a black eye for days-”

“-weeks, okay! I had to walk around weeks like a fucking pirate because I-” Andrew tried breathing calmly.

“Because you what?”

“Because...Nothing! I just took a bathe in her bathtub.” Andrew says vehemently, his ears pink “Friends do that!”

“And...”

“And what?” Andrew snaps, taking a sip of his drink, his cheeks bright red.

“Nothing! Just....I remember you scrambling out of the bathroom with an eye patch and a wooden sword.” I say “And Sam screaming something about you drowning her stuffed toy rabbit...Mr. Nibbles?”

“Mr. Snuggles.” he corrects immediately and then throws up his hands in exasperation. “Yes! So I was playing pirate! That little carrot face had snuck into the ship food stores and I had to set an example!”

“Are you evening listening to yourself right now?” I ask in genuine amazement.

“We were little.”

“We where fifteen. You pretended to be Captain Hook and drowned an innocent rabbit at Sam’ fifteenth birthday party!”

“You know, it sounds a little weird when you say it like that." he pouted, his green eyes doing an impressive baby seal imitation.

“Oh my god....it’s not weird,it’s creepy! And it always will be!” I shake my head in wonder ”Fifteen.”

“Yes and as I said- little.” he stared at me for a few moments and then amended “Than we are now. So..”

“Oh my god. I have no idea why I’m even friends with you if you think that justifies anything.”

We crack up after that when a big man in a leather biker jacket and a huge mass of brown hair takes a seat next to us.

“I want to ride a bike someday.” Andrew says wistfully, nodding at the huge man.

“Ugh, why? Bikes are slow.” I complain. I would rather run as a wolf.

“For you, maybe.” Andrew snort “For a human, it’s pretty darn fast.”

I felt a little bad. It had to be hard being the odd one out. Andrew was the only human in our pack. He lived with his grandmother who was a wolf. She had married a human and Andrew’s mom, Ella, was born one as well. And then she ran off with a guy she met at college and became pregnant. The guy left her weeks after and she had to return to the pack for help. Sadly she died shortly after Andrew was born.

It was a topic Andrew avoided like the plague. I was mulling over a suitable apology when Sam suddenly sprang up from the floor, her blue eyes wide, looking completely crazy as she approached the man in the jacket.

Before we could pull her back from doing something stupid she pointed at the guy with a quivering finger and screamed “IT’S HAGRID! HAGRID’S COME TO TAKE ME TO HOGWARTS! FAREWELL BITCHES, I’M GONNA BE BEST MATES WITH DRACO MALFOY!”

“I’m sorry, sir. She is very drunk.” Andrew is at her side immediately, discreetly stepping in front of Sam and the biker.

The man barely grunts but I thing he looks a bit pleased at being compared to Hagrid. Andrew drags the drunk blonde towards me.

“Percy?” Sam whispers suddenly, staring at Andrew in wonder “Is that really you?”

“Yeah, wisegirl.” Andrew says without missing a beat “Hera took my memory. And I stayed put in Camp Jupiter just like you told me to instead of sailing to fucking Alaska. Sierra, could you bring the car up front?”

“Aye aye, Captain!” I say cheerfully, hopping down from the bar stool, eager to get out of this place.

It happens then. The world shifted around its axis, as I tried to maneuver around a dancing couple and trip. Right into a pair of strong arms. Electricity buzzes through my body and one word echoed around in my mind. Mate.

I look up giddily into a pair of mesmerizing green eyes. He is good looking, extremely. But I barely notice that. It’s the feeling of the bond that I am swimming in. I feel safe and loved and so fucking happy and my wolf is cheering inside me. We can feel the pull he has on us and wants nothing more to stay in his embrace forever.

But I guess he had other plans as he retraced his arms quickly and I fell on my butt on the dirty floor. Whispers broke out around us and every pair of eyes in the room is glued around us. I can’t spot Andrew anywhere so he must still be trying to sort Sam out. I slowly get up.

I stare at my mate and with a jolt realize its Logan Prince, the future alpha of the pack. And he was sneering at me like I was a rabid dog. My throat suddenly feels tight.

“I can’t fucking believe this!” he yells in disgust. “Are you so starved for some release that you have to fall on every guy that you stumble across?”

“I-”

“Babe whats wrong?”

And suddenly Miranda Blake, the biggest slut in school, is draped around him. My mate. White hot anger surged through my veins.

“Just a stupid rogue” Logan sneers. It is a low insult and I try to tune out the shocked gasps around me. A dig at my dead parents. Killed by the pack. By his father.

“Oh, is it you Sierra?” Miranda laughs “Isn’t it sad mommy and daddy can’t be here for your birthday? Is the wee little baby going to cry?”

And they laugh. Everyone, including Logan. My mate, my supposedly other half.

“You are my mate.” I try again, staring at Logan.

“You’re right. But you see..“he smiles a little cruelly “I can’t have someone like you as my mate. I am the future alpha and with your..history it won’t be right.”

He pulls Miranda close and sticks his tongue down her throat eagerly. I feel the pain wreaking through my body but I don’t look away.

At last he comes up for air ” Ah, that was amazing. Yet another department, rogue, that you are bound to lack. And I don’t like disappointments like you, whore.”

“Fuck off, Logan” Suddenly Andrew is in front of me, trying to draw the crowds attention to himself so I could escape. “Your ass must be jealous of all the shit that comes out of your mouth.”

But I din’t want to escape. I was going to let that son of a bitch have it.

I push past Andrew and stand directly in front of Logan.

“You know, first I would like to thank you for rejecting me.” I say ” Because mate or not, I do not want to die of AIDS.” I glare pointedly at Miranda.

“And second, you can suck your own dick, you man whore!” And I punch him. Hard. In the face.

The silence that follows is deafening. I watch somberly as Logan clutches his nose, blood gushing to the floor. There, he wasn’t so pretty now was he?

“Come on. Let’s go.” I say to Andrew. He is wide eyed but follows me nonetheless.

The people now make way for me like I’m quicksand and I think I must do this more often.

As I step out into the cold night air I realize the tears in my eyes aren’t due to sadness. It was due to anger.

And I would unleash it soon.

Vampire: Great story. Clear plot line and very interesting. Characters are lovely and well made. Amazing writing skills and grammar. Only thing that was a little bit too much is the repetition but I guess it's a writing style? Anyways I love it definitely recommend it!
