New Job
You’ve been working for the same company since you were out of college. It’s been nearly a year now and you’ve grown to love your job as a makeup artist. You’re truly talented. After all, you did spend your time at the best Aesthetic & Cosmetic school that there is around. You work on many girl models, whose faces appear on the cover of big magazines. This is why you were heartbroken when hearing the news that the company that you have learned to love so dearly was no longer. They have promised you one thing nonetheless. This one thing being a new job. They warned you that it may be a little different than the one you were currently at, but you were just glad that they weren’t forgetting about you completely.
That’s why you find yourself standing outside of an unfamiliar building at this moment. You’re going through a consultation of sorts. At least that’s how they explained it. They’re going to decide which department you belong in and where you fit in.
You follow the signs that hang above you in the building to guide you to where the room is. You knock lightly on the wooden door before entering. It’s quite small, and there’s a nice woman sitting in a chair behind a desk. “Hello,” you say then bow. “I’m Y/N, and I’m here for the interview.”
“Of course,” she says nicely. “Please have a seat.” She gestures to a chair that sits closest to me and across from her. You do as she says and sit down. “I just have a couple questions for you.”
You clear your throat nervously. “Please, go ahead.”
She asks you a number of questions ranging from your skill set to your preferred income and schedule. She was in awe over your portfolio and loved your past work. You answer truthfully to her questions and from her reaction, she seemed pretty pleased. Although, she did get a little disappointed that you’ve only ever worked on females, but she said that it wouldn’t be a problem. Now, all you have to do is wait.
“No need to worry about getting a job,” she had said to you. “You’re a very talented girl, Y/N, it won’t take long to find you a suitable job.”
You trust her words and wait eagerly to find out your new job. It only takes the course of a couple days for you get an e-mail. It, of course, let’s you know that you got the job, although it doesn’t say where. You’re suppose to go to the same building you interviewed at tomorrow morning for further information. It was strange to say the least, but you did as it said.
Tomorrow finally comes and you dress in a light pink shirt with denim shorts and top it off with a simple cardigan. You take a taxi over to the building and enter like last time. You hold your breath when entering the designated room in which you will find out what your next job will be. “Y/N!” An excited woman shouts when you open the doors, she’s different than the one you met last time. The room is bigger this time, and she’s the only one in it.
“Um, hi!” You try to sound as excited as she is, but it’s hard to be excited in such an awkward situation. “You must be..?”
“Oh right, sorry! I’m Mina.” She bows lightly. You become a little more relaxed and bow as well. “I’m a manager at your new job!”
“Where exactly do you work?” You ask, trying to find out what company you’re going to work at.
She smiles widely at you, “I work at BigHit!”
You give her a confused look, “Is that a modeling company?”
She bursts into laughter at your question. “No, silly! Have they not told you where you’ll be working yet?”
“That’s actually why I’m here,” you chuckle nervously.
“No need to be worried, I already talked to Mira.” She notices your confused expression, “She’s the one who interviewed you last time.”
“Oh right!” You say, acting like you totally didn’t forget.
“Anyways, you’ll fit right in at BigHit,” she gives you another reassuring smile.
You also smile at her, “so who will I be doing makeup for?”
“You’ll find out tomorrow. Trust me, you’ll love this! It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity.” She then proceeds to hand you a card with additional information and directions to where you’re new job will be at.
“Thank you,” you bow slightly. “Will I be seeing you more then?”
“You got it! By the way, tomorrow is just training, so don’t feel the need to bring anything just yet.”
“Thanks again! I’ll leave first then,” you say before exiting the room.
“BigHit, huh?” You say to yourself while eating ice cream at the park. You sit alone on a park bench and pout out your lips. “BigHit...” Maybe if you say it more, it’ll make more sense? Anxiousness arises in the pit of your stomach when you think of tomorrow. The day when you find out what your future will be, where you will be spending everyday for the next however many years. Tomorrow you will find out your new job.
The way home is gray and everything seems to sit still in time. You’ve never felt this way about a job, but are confident in your skills that you will do fine. You walk home to your small apartment that sits on the top floor of the building. It’s small, but it has everything you could ever want and need in it.
You fall asleep humbly and yearn for tomorrow to come. The morning light wakes you up, as well as the alarm clock sitting beside your bed. You waste no time in getting ready, as your excitement takes over. You wear a tan long sleeve shirt, with a plain black skirt. Like usual, you did your makeup flawlessly, and are out the door in no time.
You stare at the meaningless numbers and street names written down on the small piece of paper that you had written the directions down on. You end up just handing the note to the taxi driver. “Um, I would like to go here please.” You continuously check if your makeup is alright in the camera of your phone- it’s a nervous habit of yours.
“There you are,” the driver says to you while pulling up in front of a massive building after being in the car for no more than 10 minutes. You hand the man the designated amount of money before stepping out in front of the double doors. Just above the doors is the words, BigHit Entertainment.
“You got this Y/N,” you whisper to yourself before pulling one of the big doors open. Inside, you find yourself standing in front of a reception desk. A woman sits behind it, looking up at you. “I’m here as a new employee of the makeup department.”
“Right this way,” she guides you back further into the white-walled building. Everything looks expensive and well-furnished. She leads you into another room where you see Mina along with numerous adults.
“Y/N!” Mina shouts while running up to you. “Yay, you’re finally here! We’ve been waiting for you.”
“Waiting for me?” You ask, slightly confused.
“Yes, we have to show you what you’ll be doing for us here.” She replies and a man comes up by her side, in front of me.
He looks slightly intimidating, but you try to stay calm. “Hello, I’m Asher. You must be Y/N?” The man asks.
You bow while saying, “Yes.”
“Cool, I’m another makeup artist here.” He says and it now makes sense why he looks so cute. “Your jobs pretty simple, you see, all you have to do is follow the concept instructions that will be left for you to follow.” He holds up a piece of paper that was in his hands. “Lets see who you’ll be assigned to.”
“Assigned to?” You asked.
He looks up from the paper. “Ya, you’ll be assigned to someone to do their makeup only.”
You look at him confused. “I’ll only be doing makeup for one person?”
“Well ya, there’s only seven of them anyways.”
“Seven of who?” You ask, still confused out of your mind.
He simply responds, “BTS.”
You nearly choke on your spit, “A-as in the K-pop group?”
“Well duh.” Mina cuts back into the coversation. “I think there actually in the studio right now. I think it’d be best if you met them now so you’ll have a general idea of who you’re working with.”
You stutter on your words, “I-I’ve only every worked on girls though.”
“No need to worry.” Asher cuts off your protests and starts to walk out of the room with you behind him. “Just down here.”
We continue down the small hallway, and your body shakes out of nervousness. We stop in front of a door that reads: Dance Studio. You take a big gulp as Mina begins to open the door. “HI!” She shouts casually to the people who are hidden behind the door that your hiding yourself behind.
“Mina!” Several voices shout in unison.
“Hey guys, so we have a new employee that I want to introduce to you.” You become even more nervous and slide further away from the crack of the door that is separating you and them. “Y/N, get in here.” Just as you’re about to protest, her hand drags you into the dance studio.
Six beautiful males stand before you. Dripping in sweat and all, they still look amazing. Bright lights line the walls of the room, and they outline their every feature. You’ve only every heard of BTS and heard a few of their songs that regularly play on the radio. Other than that, you don’t know much about them, except for their jaw-dropping beauty. “H-hello.” You stutter out while bowing.
“Annyeonghaseyo,” they say formally, once again in unison.
“Go ahead and introduce yourselves.” Mina says while smiling from them to me.
The tallest one starts off, “I’m Jin.” His light smile breaks my heart. “I’m the eldest.” He has a rounded jaw and soft brown hair, not to mention his broad shoulders and steady form.
The next one to go is a boy with silvery-blue hair. “I’m RM, but you can call me Namjoon.” He smiles widely, “I’m the leader.” His dimples tell his personality all together. He’s handsome. Not the typical handsome guy type, but the charmingly handsome type.
Next up is a shorter member, “I’m Suga, but call me Yoongi.” His mint-colored hair is breathtaking and he gently pushes it to the side. He has a gummy smile and looks sincere. His pure skin seems even better than that of a girls.
“I’m your hope, you’re my hope, I’m J-hope!” The next one says while smiling extremely widely at you. The other members groan at his introduction, but you find it extremely cute and welcoming. “You can call me Hoseok though.” His hair is tinted pink and rests gently on his forehead.
The next to go is the shortest of them all. “I’m Jimin,” his round cheeks stick out in a cute way. You also can’t stop staring at his plump lips that bring all of his features together. Like Jin, his hair is a soft brown.
“I’m V.” The next one says while adjusting the headband in his blonde hair. “You can call me Taehyung.” His block-smile shows all of his white teeth. He also has dark brown eyes that seem to never end.
“Wait, where’s Jungkook?” Mina asks while searching with her eyes around the room.
The tallest one, Jin, responds. “Oh, he’ll be back soon, he was just washing up really quick.”
“There’s another one?” I ask in amazement.
“Ya, it’s Jungkook. You’ll be assigned to him, right Asher?” Mina asks while looking up at Asher.
He nods his head in response. “I think you’ll enjoy doing his makeup Y/N.”
You eagerly wait for the seventh member to come out. You find yourself gravitating towards Jin and Jimin who seem to be really laid back and easy to talk to. Just as you were getting into a conversation with the two of them, someone interrupts it.
“HYUNG!” An angry voice yells and the door rips open. All of your heads turn to face the source of the sound. In front of you stands an indescribably handsome man. His features look like graphics.. his eyes, nose, lips, everything, seems surreal. You’re eyes travel across the well-built man, and your eyes finally meet. You’re heart literally stops. His doe brown eyes stare you down, but he quickly stops and looks down while bowing. “Joesonghamnida,” he apologizes to you. He gently lifts his body up and grits his teeth while looking at Jimin, who has a guilty face. His expression softens again when he look at you and he waits for you to say something.
“I-I’m Y/N.” You manage to spit out while staring back at the ebony haired man. Like him, you bow down. “Sorry for interrupting,” you blurt out while lifting your head back up.
Mina butts in, “Jungkook!” She coos, “This is your new makeup artist, so introduce yourself!”
“Oh!” He looks from Mina back to you. “I’m Jungkook,” he has a playful smile that’s cute while also being handsome. “I’m the maknae of BTS.” His dark brown hair sways with his every movement. “It’s nice to meet you,” he bows lightly.
“Likewise,” you simply say. “I look forward to doing your makeup.” You try to fight through the thick awkwardness that hangs in the air by smiling.
He nods his head, “Thank you for um- doing that.” You, as well as everyone else in the room, can feel the awkwardness.
“Well, why don’t you two gt to know each other!” There goes Mina again, always butting in. Just when you thought she couldn’t make the situation worse, she does. She moves you and Jungkook closer together so there’s barely a gap between you.
You almost immediately take a step back and he does as well. Everyone starts talking once again, but you and Jungkook just kind of stand there awkwardly. “So, how long have you been a makeup artist?” He asks.
“Ever since I graduated high school, so a year ago?” You respond and he almost looks puzzled.
“You’re out of college?” He asks while turning his head cutely sideways.
You’re slightly offended by him comment, but respond nonetheless. “Ya, aren’t you?”
“No,” he shakes his head. “You just look so young, so I thought...” He trails off.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to apologize to me.” You say in hopes to make it less awkward. “So, how much longer do you have?”
“This is my last year,” he says while looking at you with his chocolate brown eyes. “Hopefully after that I can focus more on the band. Sorry about earlier by the way, Jimin was messing with some of my things,” he laughs lightly. “You know how it is with them. So, where did you work before this?”
“I worked at a female modeling company,” you explain. “So, I’ve never worked on males before.” You nervously mess with the hem of you shirt.
He suddenly bends down so you’re eye level with him. “My last artist asked to see my face beforehand so she could have an idea of what she had to work with.”
You do as he says whilst your heart practically beating out of your chest. Every imperfection is clear now, including a small scar on his left cheek. You have an urge to ask what happened, but restrain yourself from doing so. He has the kind of face that someone would have to take a double-take when passing by him. Moving across his face you find yourself looking at his lips. They’re slightly uneven and full. Everything about his face is perfect.
“You have a great face,” you involuntarily say and flood red when you realize you said it out loud. “C-coming from a professional perspective.” You try to cover up quickly and he just stands back up.
“Thanks?” He questions before laughing lightly, and I soon join in. “You don’t have to feel awkward around me, since we’ll be spending a lot of time together from now on.” He says, once he catches his breath.
“I look forward to doing your makeup, Jungkook.”
