Before

Patterns made by the heavens woven by angels in white silk in a new original design every time.

that’s what mummy told me anyway, but then again she told me a lot of things.

snowflakes fell around me, in curtains of white wonder. catching one or two on my 6-year-old fingertips.

cold numbed my button nose and my eyelashes stuck with frost, but still, my laughter carried out into the lonely wind over the mountain tops.

I spun, my arms raised high, Feet shuffling in the sinking snow. Oh, how wonderful winter was!

I felt like a snow fairy!

a beautiful snow fairy with wings of silk that could fly higher and higher!,

I spun even faster as if I could catch the wind as if I could fly, I really could, I knew I could!

I raised my arms and spun to the edge of the small pile of snow, I was a fairy a beautiful lady in the hilltops singing her lonely song, I then took a leaped, wishing to be carried off, I was embraced by cold air against my face and-

wet icy snow as I crashed head first into it.

I laughed turning over, my nose numbing in the cold as I moved my arms up and down in the snow.

ok, so maybe I couldn’t fly, but that’s OK I think. I carried on singing my song.

frost falling all around.

making me remember,

of a beautiful sound,

that filled every women and child

who all knew well,

that their heart was bond,

and so they too should surrender.

to a summer that banished all winter,

a bouquet of promises making us remember.

of a frost that once fell all around

is all over, leaving just,

this beautiful sound.

“Blue!”

my arms froze in mid-stroke, the words dying in my throat.

“Blue!”

I knew that low grumble could only belong to him. but its ok. I was still a fairy a small tiny fairy if I kept still he wouldn’t see me.

“Blue, Blue where are youuu!”

The small rhyme made me clump down on the giggle rising inside, but the sound betrayed me as it slipped from my lips.

“ahhhh, and who is that I hear?” two big snow boots stopped at the foot of mine, and I looked up to meet the big brown eyes that stared down at me, with one bushy eyebrow raised, I knew he was not very happy with me.

“um haha, hello father, ah I know I am not supposed to be out here, but it was snowing father! angel snow! and I just had to see it and I was only playing and ah um, ah, I’m sorry.”

Father continued to frown at me, but I could see the side of his mouth twitch up in a smirk, and before I could shriek in protest, he scooped me up in one big arm and threw me over his shoulder and stalked back towards the small hut at the top of the hill where inside I knew there would be a fire crackling with mother siting in a rocking chair basking in the warm embers,

which is where father sat me in front of, not even glancing at me, she continued to move her cleaver fingers around her knighting that looked to be a purple tunic.

only smiled as she spoke softly, ” I can feel the frost and snow wafting off of you from here” her voice tickled over me as I averted my eyes. ” come here blue”

obeying I knelt before her as she fingered my blond ringlets, clumps of snow falling out. "the snow is blending in with the color of your hair ” she smiled ” like a little snow fairy”

she spoke softly,

"Oh, yes mama! a snow fairy! I really truly am aren’t I ! well, I can’t exactly fly, But I can twirl faster and faster and I can sing Like a beautiful lady mama! don’t you believe me mama!” father and mother shared a smile at my babbling.

“of course I do Bluebell,” she said.

I sighed as if a huge weight had been left off my shoulders.

“but, you know you're not allowed to wander out in the snow alone”

she said meeting my eyes, hers still as stone, and I braced myself for the lecture but all she said was ” not everyone is as nice and kind as you, my little fairy, some are vicious creatures who will you use your kindness against you, some who won't care if your only playing. ”

I stared at her.

“like the wolves?”

“like the wolves.”
